45 large class boys basketball players to watch this season

Football is quickly reaching its end point and that means one thing: basketball is right around the corner.

The 2024-25 high school basketball season tips off in Tennessee next Monday and the area is once again loaded with talent. Who are some players you need to see at some point this season?

We reached out to all of our area coaches a week before the season tips off and asked who from their squads are some names to be on a players to watch list.

Combing through all of their replies we put together a list of 45 of those players from our large class schools that you need to see at some point during the season.

The schools in our coverage area that make up the large class category consist of Class 4A, Class 3A and Division II-AA programs.

*Notes: Stats for these players were obtained via an email sent out to coaches in the last week. These lists will also contain players who averaged 9 ppg or more and will have no more than four players from the same team.

Jaiden Claybrook, Antioch,Sr.: Claybrook was one of Metro Nashville’s most efficient scorers last season averaging 18.9 points to go along with 9.3 rebounds.

Ta’khyian Whitset, Antioch, Sr.: A NC State football commitment, Whitset’s a force on the court to. He averaged 11.7 points and 6.3 rebounds last season.

Cutter Sisk, Beech, Jr.: Sisk is the Bucs lead-returning scorer after averaging 10 points and five rebounds per game last season.

Garrison Eady, Blackman, Sr.: Eady averaged 10 points and five rebounds last season and will lead a balanced Blaze squad this year.

Davis Cochran, Brentwood, So.: With his older brother Daniel now gone, the Bruins will now turn to Davis to lead them the next few seasons. He averaged 10 points on 60% shooting and seven rebounds per game as a freshman.

Jeromy Davis, Brentwood Academy, Jr.: The Eagles lost a lot from last year’s state runner-up squad but have the luxury of Davis returning. He averaged eight points and three rebounds as a junior.

Avyion McCleton, Cane Ridge, Sr.: The Ravens look to take another step forward this season with McCleton leading the way. He averaged 12.6 points, 4.5 assists, 4.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds as a junior.

Gunnar Lewis, CPA, Sr.: Lewis was a threat from deep last season for the Lions connecting on 39% of his three-point attempts. He led CPA averaging 16.5 points, 3.3 assists and 2.9 rebounds.

Jonathan Sanderson, Ensworth, Jr.: Welcome to Tennessee Mr. Sanderson. A four-star prospect from Michigan, he holds multiple Power Four offers and was an All-State selection in the Great Lakes State averaging 29.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists.

Gan-Erdene Solongo, Ensworth, Jr.: Sanderson’s teammate from Michigan, Solongo is a 7-foot post that should clog the lane for the Tigers. He holds multiple Power Four offers including Arizona State, Butler, Illinois, Ohio State, Rutgers and Xavier.

Cade Bennerman, Father Ryan, Sr.: A recent Northwestern pledge, Bennerman averaged 8.1 points on 54% shooting along with four reounds and two blocks per game as a junior.

Christian Brown, Franklin, Sr.: Brown, a James Madison signee, established himself as one of Williamson County’s best last season averaging 16.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

Aaron Mattingly, Green Hill, Sr.: Mattingly’s future may lie in football but he’s a standout on the court as well. He averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game during his junior season.

Antjuan Welch, Green Hill, Sr.: Welch will compliment Mattingly well this season. He averaged 10 points last year and shot 39% from beyond-the-arc.

Jalen Heard, Hillsboro, Sr.: The Burros were going to be loaded already this season but landing Heard, a Cookeville transfer, just adds to their depth. He averaged 12 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Cavaliers during their run to the state semifinals.

Cortez Graham Howard, Hillsboro, Sr.: It seems like Howard has been a force for awhile and now the North Alabama commitment enters his final year of high school ball. He averaged 15.6 points, 5.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.2 blocks as a junior.

Xavier Washington, Hillsboro, Sr.: Washington was another standout for the Burros last season averaging 13.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

Michael Nwoye, Hume-Fogg, Sr.: Hume-Fogg was one of the best stories around last season and Nwoye had a big part in that. He averaged a team-high 15 points, 11 rebounds and two assists per game.

Alonzo Rhodes, Hume-Fogg, Jr.: Rhodes ran the show for the Blue Knights averaging 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists.

Nick Degnan, Independence, Sr.: Degnan made an impact for the Bruins last season and will now look to do so for the defending Class 4A champions after transferring to Independence.

Tylan Lewis, Independence, Sr.: Lewis is one of the area’s most dynamic players and will be tabbed to lead the Eagles this season. He averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals as a junior.

Armani Smith, Kirkwood, So.: Smith broke onto the scene as a sophomore and immediately made an impact for the Cobras averaging 16 points per game.

Landon Bryant, , La Vergne, Sr.: The Wolverines are going to be one of the best teams around this season and that starts with Bryant. He averaged 18 points and six rebounds as a junior.

Steven Sherman, La Vergne, Jr.: Sherman had a breakout sophomore season and will only get better this year. He averaged 12 points and three steals last season.

Avery Harris, Lebanon, Sr.: Harris was an All-District selection last season for the Blue Devils averaging 14.5 points and 3.5 assists.

Cam Blivens, Lipscomb Academy, Jr.: Blivens broke onto the scene as a sophomore and quickly established himself as one of the area’s best averaging 20 points and 2.4 assists.

Cason Gregory, Macon County, Sr.: A 6-foot-3 for the Tigers, Gregory was an All-District selection last season averaging 13.1 points on 64% shooting and nine rebounds per game.

Kevin Die’, MBA, Sr.: Die’ averaged 10 points, four rebounds and four assist for the Big Red last season.

Collin O’Neal, MBA, Sr.: O’Neal was one of the area’s best last season and will only get better leading the Big Red this year. He averaged 13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and three rebounds.

MJ Floyd, MLK, Sr.: The Royals had a huge 2023-2024 season and will look to build upon that with Floyd leading the way. He averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists last season.

Eden Nandzo, MLK, So.: Nandzo is a name to know going forward. He averaged 12 points, seven rounds and four assists as a freshman.

Kyson Barney, Nolensville, Jr.: On a team led by upperclassmen, Barney still found a way to standout averaging a team-high 10 points per game along with three rebounds and two assists.

Hunter Moss, Page, Sr.: Moss led the Patriots last season averaging 11 points, two rebounds and one assist per game.

Osby Cavin, Poph John Paul II, Jr.: Cosby really found his stride late in the season for the Knights becoming a pivotal part in their run to the state tournament. He averaged eight points, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 rebounds.

Trey Pearson, Pope John Paul II, Jr.: Pearson’s time to lead the Knights is now. He was one of the best players in the MidState last season averaging 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals and three steals per game.

Carter Webb, Siegel, Sr.: Webb’s one of the best players in Murfreesboro. He was a 4A All-State selection last season after averaging 21.9 points and 6.1 rebounds.

Jalylle Batey-Roberts, Smyrna, Sr.: Bates led the Bulldogs last season averaging 11.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Tyreque McCarver, Smyrna, Sr.: McCarver is a standout on the football field for the Bulldogs as he is on the court as a well. As a junior he averaged 10.1 points and 3.2 assists.

E’Shon Thompkins, Springfield Sr.: Thompkins is one of the best around in Robertson County. He averaged 15 points and four steals per game as a junior.

Seth Bailey, Station Camp, Sr.: Bailey connected on 67% of shots last season to average 12.7 points per game. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Ty Thurston, Station Camp, Sr.: Thurston led the Bison in scoring last season at 14.2 points per game to go along with 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

Tahj Roseburr, Stewarts Creek, Sr.: Roseburr will look to build off of a junior year for the Red Hawks that saw him average 11 points per game.

Louis Taylor, White House, Jr.: An all-district and all-tournament selection last season, Taylor averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game.

JaMichael Mitchell, Wilson Central, Sr.: Mitchell averaged 11 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists last season for the Wildcats.

Towan Siler, Wilson Central, Sr.: Siler led the Wildcats last season averaging 14 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
