All-615 preseason small class boys basketball teams

0 0

We’ve taken a look at the best of the best when it comes to the large class boys basketball teams in our area. Now it’s time for the small class players.

Last year we had several teams make deep postseason runs. The cores of those teams are back and should again make runs that could lead to raising a gold ball in March.

These players come from schools in Class 2A, 1A and Division II-A.

*Notes: Stats for these players were obtained via an email sent out to coaches ahead of the season.

Small Class

First Team

Guard: Trae Rideau, Clarksville Academy, Sr.

Rideau will once again be called upon to lead the Cougars to what they hope is another long run. He was a standout last season averaging 21 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

Trae Rideau (2) led Clarksville Academy last season and is one of the area’s top scorers. Chris Brooks/615 Preps

Guard: Arnett Hayes, BGA, Sr.

Hayes is tearing it up on the football field right now but will be the Wildcats’ top scoring threat when he hits the court. He averaged 17 points, four rebounds and three assists per game last season.

Once he’s done on the football field, Arnett Hayes will transition back into one of the area’s top scorers. Scott Burton/615 Preps

Forward: Jayden Jones, Goodpasture, Sr.

Jones, a Tennessee State pledge, was a Division II-A Mr. Basketball finalist last season. He finished the year averaging 19 points on 60% shooting, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks per game.

A Mr. Basketball finalist last season, Jayden Jones appears to the front-runner to win the award this season. Chris Brooks/615 Preps

Forward: Preston Wade, PCA, Sr.

PCA’s a favorite to contend for the Division II-A title and a lot of that is because of Wade. He’s a force inside and will look to build off of a junior season that saw him average 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks per game.

Wade (21) is a force down low on both sides of the ball. Chris Brooks/615 Preps

Center: Avery Coles, White House Heritage, Jr.

Standing in at 6-foot-10 and 260 pounds, Coles asserted himself early and often as a sophomore. He should only build this year after he averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds during his breakout season.

Sixth Man: Aiden Bolden, PCA, Jr.

Bolden may end the year as the Division II-A Mr. Basketball winner if he plays like how he closed out last season. A human highlight reel, he averaged 12 points and seven rebounds last season for the Lions.

Aiden Bolden (4) was a human highlight reel last season and will look to build upon that this season. Chris Brooks/615 Preps

Second Team

Guard: Greyson Williams, BGA, Sr.

Guard: Cortez Murphy, East Nashville, Jr.

Forward: Ford DeShazo, GCA, Jr.

Forward: Clay Payne, USN, Sr.

Center: Josh Huggins, Goodpasture, Fr.

Sixth Man: A.J. Petway, LEAD Academy, Sr.
