30 small class boys basketball players to watch this season

The boys high school basketball season is quickly approaching. With that in mind, who are some players you need to get out and see this season?

We reached out to coaches in the last week to see about some of those names and what they accomplished last season.

ALL-615 SMALL CLASS: Introducing the initial All-615 Large Class Preseason Teams

Earlier today we highlighted the players at our large class schools. Now it’s time to do the same for the small class programs.

Our area small class schools consist of programs in Class 2A, Class 1A and Division II-A.

*Notes: Stats for these players were obtained via an email sent out to coaches in the last week. These lists will also contain players who averaged 9 ppg or more and will have no more than four players from the same team.

Greyson Williams, BGA, Sr.: Williams was a scoring machine last season for the Wildcats averaging 14 points per game along with six assists and four rebounds.

Arnett Hayes, BGA, Sr.: Hayes is tearing it up on the football field but will be the Wildcats’ main scoring option when he returns. He averaged 17 points per game last season.

Lukas Phillips, Cannon County, Jr.: Phillips averaged 9.8 points and 3.5 rebounds last season.

Trae Rideau, Clarksville Academy, Sr.: Rideau’s a scoring machine for the Cougars. He averaged 21 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.6 steals.

Camden Cole, Eagleville, Jr.: The Eagles should be a contender in Class 1A this season with Cole leading the way. He averaged 15.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists as a sophomore.

James Bega, Eagleville, Jr.: Bega will look to improve upon a sophomore season that saw him average 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

JeVon Carter, East Nashville, Jr.: Carter is one of East’s lead-returning scorers after averaging 12 points per game as a sophomore.

Cortez Murphy, East Nashville, Jr.: Murphy led the Eagles in scoring last season and will look to do it again this year. He averaged 13 points per game.

MJ Gibbs, Ezell-Harding, Sr.: Gibbs will lead the Eagles into the new season after averaging 12 points, five rebounds and two steals per game.

Ford DeShazo, GCA, Jr.: DeShazo’s one of the best pure scorers around. As a junior he averaged 16.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and two assists as a sophomore.

Ty Gibbs, GCA, Sr.: Gibbs will be the Lions’ senior leader this season. he averaged 12 points per game last season while shooting 34.5% from beyond-the-arc.

Rhett Broussard, Goodpasture, Sr.: Hitting his three-pointers at a clip of 40%, Broussard averaged 14 points per game last season.

Josh Huggins, Goodpasture, Fr.: Huggins broke onto the scene as a eighth-grader last season for the Cougars and quickly established himself as a name to know going forward.

Jayden Jones, Goodpasture, Sr.: A Tennessee State signee, Jones was a Division II-A Mr Basketball finalist last year averaging 19 points, 10 rebounds and shooting 60% from the field.

King Keary, Goodpasture, Sr.: Keary played a pivotal role in the Cougars’ success a few years ago and after not being at the school last season, he’s back and will be one of the area’s top point guards.

Brodie Sykes, Gordonsville, Sr.: Sykes averaged close to a double-double last season at 11 points and seven rebounds per game.

Kentez Anthony, KIPP Collegiate, Jr.: Anthony averaged 12 points per game, six rebounds and two blocks per game.

Kadarius Johnson, KIPP Collegiate, Sr.: Johnson averaged 10.5 points, four rebounds and three assists per game last season.

A.J. Petway, LEAD Academy, Sr.: Petway’s one of Nashville’s top scorers. Last year he averaged 19 points, five assists and three steals per game.

Trace Collier, Liberty Creek, Sr.: Collier averaged 10 points per game last season for the Wolves.

Aiden Bolden, PCA, Jr.: Bolden was a human highlight reel last season for the Lions averaging 12 points and seven rebounds per game.

Preston Wade, PCA, Sr.: Wade does it all inside for the Lions. He averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks last season en route to the DII-A championship appearance.

Chris Washington Jr., PCA, Jr.: A rising junior, Washington holds a number of notable Power Four offers including Alabama, Auburn, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan and Tennessee.

Javion Kinnard, Pearl-Cohn, Sr.: A Colorado State football commitmentm Kinnard’s also electric on the court. He averaged 11 points per game.

Ladamion Hunter, Pearl-Cohn, Jr.: Hunter led the Firebirds in scoring last season at 14 points per game.

Lucas Morris, Sycamore, Sr.: Morris averaged 14.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game during his junior season for the War Eagles.

Clay Payne, USN, Sr.: Payne did nothing but record double-doubles for the Tigers last year averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Malachi Benton, Whites Creek, Jr.: On a balanced Cobras team that won 25 games, Benton led the squad averaging a team-high 10.9 points alongside 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals.

Avery Coles, White House Heritage, Jr.: Coles is a double-double machine for the Patriots. Last season he averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Noah Green, White House Heritage, Jr.: Green plays as a nice compliment to Coles. He averaged 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds as a sophomore.
