The Division II basketball season has come to an end and two of our area teams will be headed to Murfreesboro next week for the girls state tournament.
This year has flown by but now we’re in the final stages of the 2024-2025 high school basketball season. The last week has seen nearly every team in our area end their season. With that came quite a few changes in this week’s area rankings.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.
Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.
Large Class
1. Lipscomb Academy (27-4): Drawing Knox Webb in the semifinals provided the Lady Mustangs with a massive test in their opening round game in Cookeville. They kept it close from the tip but couldn’t spring the upset losing 52-47.
2. CPA (23-7): The Lady Lions got some revenge against Knox Catholic beating the two-time defending state champions 50-47 in the DII-AA state semifinals. Though they kept it close throughout, they couldn’t carry that magic into their state championship matchup wth
3. Clarksville (26-2): There will be no return trip to Murfreesboro this season for the Lady Wildcats. Their season ended with a 33-32 substate loss to Whitehaven.
4. Lebanon (24-8): After losing to Cookeville in their region title game, the Devilettes faced the tall task of traveling to Bradley Central. The top-ranked Bearettes proved to be too much ending Lebanon’s season with an 82-32 loss.
5. Portland (24-11): The Lady Panthers have found a spark and it’s landed them as our lone large class school making it to Murfreesboro next week. To get there they beat Macon County (41-28) and Station. Camp (48-37) in region tournament play before beating Creek Wood (54-40) in their substate matchup.

2. Providence Christian (23-7): After a close first quarter, TKA broke things open in the second half and never looked back. PCA struggled to get much going from the field in its 57-36 semifinal loss shooting just under 32%.
3. Cheatham County (28-6): After wins over Huntingdon (59-49) and Stewart County (52-33) for the Region 6-2A title, the Lady Cubs squared off with Summertown for a trip to the Class 2A state tournament. That bid back to Murfreesboro came up two points short as Cheatham County lost 34-32.
4. Goodpasture (22-9): The Lady Cougars’ season came to an end with a 50-46 loss to USJ in the DII-A quarterfinals.
