Postseason play has officially arrived!
For a few of our area teams, it started last week. Most begin this week and we have several teams capable of making long postseason runs.
Entering the new season, we took a look at our area rankings as well.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.
Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.
Large Class
1. Pope John Paul II (26-3): Trey Pearson stole the show against MBA Tuesday night scoring 27 points to lead the Knights past the Big Red 58-42. A few nights later it was Osby Cavin’s turn as he scored 19 in a 66-56 win at Father Ryan.
2. Hillsboro (25-5): They closed the week with a 49-point win over McGavock but the Burros’ mid-week matchup proved to be a much stiffer challenge. Cortez Graham-Howard scored 28 that night against Antioch to lead Hillsboro past the Bears 57-46.
3. Hume-Fogg (21-3): Make it 13 in a row and unbeaten district run for the Blue Knights. They accomplished that by beating Maplewood in an ugly 51-39 win before cruising past Lawson 67-42.
4. MBA (21-5): It was a rough end to the regular season for the Big Red. They failed to defend home court in their 16-point loss to JPII.
5. Father Ryan (18-7): The week was a mixed bag for the Irish. They crushed CPA 60-41 and kept things close with JPII before eventually losing that game by 10.
