Ezell-Harding’s dynamic duo leads Lady Eagles to first district title since 2016

What happened in last season’s district title game at Clarksville Academy still rang clear in every head of each player on Ezell-Harding’s bench.

That night a year ago saw the Lady Eagles playing against Goodpasture. It ended with the Lady Cougars raising the title following a 36-point win.

Fast forward to Saturday night and the stars aligned for a night those associated to Ezell-Harding’s program would never forget.

Dominating from the opening tip, the Lady Eagles got their revenge by cruising past Goodpasture 55-37 for their first district championship since 2016.

“It means a lot for these young ladies who were my day one’s,” Ezell-Harding head coach Gabe Reynolds said. “Brilee (Price) and Reghan (Williams) have been with me and they were the foundatiional pieces when I got here. It’s been since 2016 since we were able to win a district title so it was big for not only me but more importantly, these young ladies.”

For Price and Williams, it was just their night.

The duo combined for 42 of the Lady Eagles’ (24-3) 55 points. Williams knocked down six 3-pointers scoring a game-high 22 points along the way. Price hit a few outside shots as well but did most of her work inside againt Goodpasture’s smaller backcourt.

Both girls acknowledged that playing on their home court in front of a packed out home crowd only helped them get their bearings early.

“It was a great feeling hearing the crowd every time a shot went in,” Williams said. “To get that first three and then the second, hearing the fans just kept me going. It really kept us all going throughout the game.”

The run to the district title wasn’t perfect for the Lady Eagles.

They split their season series with Goodpasture and in their first tournament game against DCA, struggled to get going offensively.

All of that’s in the past now. Price acknowledged those short-comings but was more focused on what could come in the near future.

“We can be really dangerous going forward,” Price said. “As long as everyone does their jobs and our bigs are being big down in the post, we all compliment each other in a way that will make us succeed. There’s not telling how far we can go.”
