Holiday Tournaments came to an end last week and district play has arrived. Now is when the state’s best really start to separate themselves.
Results last week between the end of those tournaments and the start of district play resulted in a few changes in this week’s large and small class rankings.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.
Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.
Large Class
1. Pope John Paul II (16-1): Opening up region play against Ensworth, Kamden Days had the best game of his career. He had 25 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Knights past the Tigers 70-64.
2. MBA (11-1): There may not have been a more impressive win during the week than what the Big Red did to Father Ryan. Collin O’Neal scored a game-high 25 points in a dominant 73-32 win over the Irish.
3. Hillsboro (14-4): It was a mixed week for the Burros at the Memphis Hoopfest. They beat Houston 67-58 but lost to Pace Academy out of Texas.
4. Brentwood (12-2): The Bruins did not play last week.
5. Lipscomb Academy (12-2): Cam Blivens continues to light it up and the Mustangs keep winning. They played once last week beating CPA 53-37.

Small Class
1. Providence Christian (12-1): The Lions only played one game last week but did what they’ve done all season. USN stood no shot losing 67-47.
2. Goodpasture (12-1): The Cougars played twice last week and weren’t challenged in either game. They crushed Whites Creek 70-46 and Nashville Christian 83-54.
3. Ezell-Harding (17-0): All the Eagles know right now is winning. They beat CPA 59-53 in overtime to win the New Year’s Classic at Liberty Creek and followed that up with a 59-52 win over Liberty Creek and 62-40 win over MJCA.
4. White House Heritage (12-2): Make it seven wins in a row now for the Patriots. They dismantled Fairview 76-21 before narrowly beating Portland 55-49.
5. Eagleville (12-2): It was a rough opening to the week for the Eagles. Loretto crushed them 75-49 but Eagleville rebounded a few days later holding Pickett County for the 74-71 win.
