Mother Nature plans to rear hear head during the midpoint of the season. Week 6 is looking like a wet one full of standout games.
Several area games have been moved to Thursday night due to Hurricane Helene pushing its way through Florida and eventually through Middle Tennessee. Other teams have opted to stick it out see how Friday night goes.
Bad weather or not, this week promises to be another fun one because of the games on the schedule. Here’s a look at our top 10 games for Week 6 and a little background on each.
MAKE IT HAPPEN: 5 dream matchups we wish were happening in 2024
ON THE RISE: Week 6 large, medium, small class area rankings
Spotlight Game: Stewarts Creek (4-1, 1-0 Region 5-6A) at Antioch (4-1, 2-0)
The top spot in the region is up for grabs in this one as the Red Hawks head over to Antioch. This was a slugfest last season that the Bears won 34-27.
There may be no shortage of points between these two sides. Antioch is averaging 36 points per game while Stewarts Creek is not too far off at 33 points per game.
The key to this game will be if Stewarts Creek can slow down Andre Adams. Antioch’s sophomore quarterback is on a tear and can do it through the air or on the ground.

Centennial (4-1, 1-0 Region6-5A) at Nolensville (3-2, 1-0)
Both of these squads are likely happy to be getting back to region play after last week. The Cougars needed a last-minute touchdown to beat Springfield while Nolensville couldn’t get much going in a 32-3 loss to Franklin.
The way things are panning out, the winner here likely secures a top-two spot in the region as well.
Nolensville needs to have a good showing here to prove that they’re.a real contender in the region. The Knights’ three wins have come against teams that are 3-12.
Clarksville (5-0, 2-0 Region 7-6A) at Dickson County (3-2, 2-0)
Clarksville once again appears to be the favorite to win the region and have a real shot at another unbeaten regular season.
Standing in the way of that is a Dickson County team that’s one of the hottest around. After dropping their first two games, the Cougars have won three straight including region wins over Kirkwood and Northeast.
The Wildcats seem to have found their groove the last three weeks on offense. In wins over Kenwood, Hopkinsville (Ky.) and West Creek they averaged 40.3 points.
Fairview (3-2) at Creek Wood (4-1)
Take away a 34-point loss to Pearl-Cohn, Creek Wood’s been one of the best surprises through the first five weeks.
The Red Hawks have won back-to-back games by double digits and look to be a real contender for the 2-3 spot in Region 5-4A. Their four wins have all come by 10 or more points.
Fairview’s been a bit of a mystery this season. The Yellowjackets have three blowout wins but also a pair of head-scratching loss including a 21-17 loss to Richland two weeks ago.
FRA (5-0) at East Nashville (5-0)
FRA’s had no issues any of its games so far this year and takes on an East Nashville side that’s reeling a bit.
The Eagles struggled to get much going last week without KJ Johnson carrying the rock. They were able to overcome that in the end to beat Liberty Creek 26-20 and claim their spot at the top of the region.
Any thought of a rebuild following the graduation of stars Ty Clark and Bobby Council have quickly been put to rest. The Panthers have rolled through their first five games winning by an average of 36.8 points.
Green Hill (5-0, 2-0 Region 4-6A) at Gallatin (2-3, 1-1)
No team has been able to slow Kannon Burroughs down yet as the Hawks’ junior signal-caller is doing it through the air and on the ground.
In Green Hill’s 52-28 win, Burroughs threw a pair of touchdown passes but was more effective on the ground. He rushed for 190 yards and four touchdowns to keep the Hawks unbeaten.
Gallain seemingly found its offense last week against Warren County. The Green Wave took out some frustration from their loss from the week before by beating the beating the Pioneers 65-0.

Hendersonville (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-5A) at Beech (4-1, 1-0)
If you want to see a good ole’ fashioned rivalry game, head over to Shackle Island.
This game once again looks like it’ll be extremely important when it comes to playoff seeding. The winner will have the fast track to take one of the top spots while the loser will need wins over Henry County and Springfield to stay in the mix.
Since losing both meetings in 2021, the Bucs have rolled in the last two meetings. Last year they dispatched the Commandos 34-14.
Kirkwood (4-1, 2-1 Region 7-6A) at Rossview (5-0, 3-0)
Whoever wins this game still has a shot at competing for one of the two two spots in the region. Rossview could still get there with a loss but a loss for Kirkwood would punt the Cobras out of that spot.
The Hawks haven’t been as dominant on defense as they were last season but they’re better on the offensive side of the ball. Rossview’s scored 30 or more points the last four weeks as they’ve gotten off to their first 5-0 start in school history.
Kirkwood’s taken a step forward but couldn’t get over the hump that is Dickson County. They lost to the Cougars 17-14 last week losing much of the momentum they built from their four wins prior.
Liberty Creek (2-3) at Westmoreland (4-1)
Liberty Creek’s turned things around from a rough two weeks and nearly stunned East Nashville last week. That win would have put them in the driver seat to finish first in Region 5-3A
Things don’t easier this week as they travel to a Westmoreland team thats won four straight and putting up a ton of points.
Since only scoring seven in their Week 1 loss to Macon County, the Eagles have averaged 34.5 points over the last four games.
Portland (3-2, 0-1 Region 7-5A) at Springfield (2-3, 0-1)
Whoever wins this game still has a shot at securing a shot at one of the top two spots in the region. The loser could be at risk of missing the postseason.
There may not be a better 2-3 team around than Springfield. The Yellow Jackets’ three losses have all come by one possession and are just 12 points away from being unbeaten.
Portland bounced back from back-to-back losses with a 24-21 win over Clay County. Shawn Sebring ran for three touchdowns in that win and they’ll that and some more on the road at Springfield.
