615 Preps Week 6 Area Rankings: CPA makes statement with win over BGA

0 0

Week 6 is here meaning we’re officially on the homestretch of the regular season. It also means we have a good idea on who the best teams in our coverage area are.

The fifth week of the season was a weird one. Unbeaten streaks came to an end, multi-year winning streaks ended and a few massive upsets nearly happened.

While many of our top teams took care of business, that wasn’t the case for all of them resulting in some changes to this week’s rankings.

The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area entering Week 6.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

Large Class

1. Ravenwood (5-0): Overton didn’t provide much of a challenge for the Raptors. Ravenwood rolled to a 48-0 win as Jaylen Pollard had a 53-yard pick-six, a blocked punt and blocked punt recovery. Up next: vs. Independence (0-5)

2. Oakland (5-0): The Patriots were lucky to leave Blackman unbeaten. Down all night, they took the lead late and a blocked kick propelled them to the 13-12 win over the Blaze. Up next: vs. Rockvale (1-4)

3. Ensworth (5-0): Justin Hopkins had a kickoff returned for six and an interception at the end of the night as the Tigers’ defense shutdown Lipscomb Academy 17-3. Up next: at MUS (2-3)

4. Mt. Juliet (5-0): Going on the road, the Golden Bears proved that they’re the team to beat in Region 4-6A with a dominant 38-21 win over the Cavaliers. Deon Waller and Tre Redmond each had long pick-six’s in the win. Up next: vs. Wilscon Central (2-3)

5. Green Hill (5-0): Mt. Juliet may be the class of Region 4-6A but Green Hill is right there on their heels. Shutting out Lebanon in the second half, the Hawks rolled past Lebanon 52-28 behind 318 total yards and six total touchdowns from Kannon Burroughs. Up next: at Gallatin (2-3)

Dropped out: None. Who just missed out: Antioch (4-1), Riverdale (4-1)

Medium Class

1. Page (5-0): Five games, five shutouts for the Patriots. Louisville commitment Eric Hazzard had a pick-six and touchdown off of a 42-yard Hail Mary in Page’s 42-0 win over Coffee County. Up next: vs. Glencliff (1-4)

Small Class

1. East Nashville (5-0): Without KJ Johnson, the Eagles got all they could handle and then some. After Liberty Creek took a two-point lead into the fourth quarter, East was able to rally and pick up the 26-20 region win. Up next: vs. FRA (5-0)

2. East Robertson (5-0): Violation of team rules kept several key players off of the field for the Indians Friday night. They were able to overcome that thanks to another big night for Kason Young in a 43-27 win over Jo Byrns. Up next: at Smith County (1-4)

3. Nashville Christian (3-1): Jared Curtis was 10-of-15 passing for 171 yards and four touchdowns in the Eagles’ 58-0 win over MJCA. He also added another touchdown on the ground. Up next: vs. GCA (1-3)

5. Gordonsville (4-1): The Tigers were able to stay within striking distance of DeKalb County most of the night but Jordan Parker’s five touchdowns were too much for Gordonsville to overcome in the 35-21 loss. Up next: vs. Monterey (2-3)

Dropped out: DCA. Who just missed out: DCA (4-1), Friendship Christian (3-2)
