Cam Reid’s 5 biggest takeaways from the BlueCross Bowls

0 0

The 2023 high school football season has come and gone as we crowned nine state champions this past weekend. The weekend was just like the season, with unexpected twists and turns resulting in unexpected results in some cases.

As I write this, I can’t help but think about all the seniors in our area that have played their last football games and will now begin the challenge of life. To those seniors, from all of us at 615 Preps, it was a pleasure watching you guys play the game we all love.

With that, here are my biggest takeaways of the 2023 State Championship weekend.

BROOKS: Chris Brooks’ five biggest takeaways from the BlueCross Bowls

BURTON: Scott Burton’s five biggest takeaways from the BlueCross Bowls

SPEARS: Joe Spears’ five biggest takeaways from the BlueCross Bowls

We. Need. Replay.

Yet another season where we are left thinking what if that call was overturned, who would have won. Last year MBA vs Baylor, this year McCallie vs Baylor, Friendship vs MTCS, and the most controversial Upperman vs Pearl Cohn.

These kids work too hard to let a call decide their fate. It is time for TSSAA to use their resources to install video replay at the state championships.

This opinion does not in any way mean a game would have ended differently had there been replay.

The wait is finally over for Metro Nashville

Metro Nashville has waited 15 years for a state championship in Football. They have been deserving on multiple occasions, but it always seemed to fall apart. Not this year, not in 2023! The Pearl Cohn Firebirds are 2023 4A State Champions!

Eli Wilson makes a statement

Eli Wilson proves without a doubt he should have been one of the finalists for Mr. Football. He led the Cougars to their first football state title dethroning defending state champion Friendship Christian.

Youth hurts in 2A, 6A championship games

Both East Robertson and Oakland were probably the favorites in their matchups by many. But their inexperience and mistakes were too much to overcome and they both settled for silver.

Rain makes for a terrible final two days

What a miserable two days to be out in the conditions with rain, wind, and cool temperatures. Not only does it effect the games, it also limits us on the coverage we can provide.

Whoever did the rain dance this week, you just made the list!
