615 Preps Week 8 Area Rankings: Several unbeatens fall to shuffle ranks before fall break

This week’s rankings see some moves due to multiple teams suffering their first loss of the season in Week 7.

The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top 10 large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area. Large Class teams include the 29 Class 6A and Division II-AAA teams in our coverage area. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA, totaling 25 squads. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, which contain 29 teams.

Large Class

1. Riverdale (6-1, 4-0 Region 3-6A)

Change: None (last week: 1st) | Last week: 30-14 win at Smyrna | This week: open date
The Warriors take this week off in sole possession of first place in Region 3-6A after taking care of Smyrna.

2. Oakland (6-1, 3-1 Region 3-6A)

Change: None (last week: 2nd) | Last week: 30-7 win at Rockvale | This week: open date
After their fourth consecutive win, the Patriots get a week to rest and recover as they look toward bigger things later this month.

3. Brentwood Academy (5-2, 2-0 DII-AAA West Region)

Change: No change (last week: 3rd) | Last week: 63-14 win at MUS | This week: vs. Briarcrest
Four straight wins for the Eagles as they prepare to play one of the other teams currently tied for first place in the region.

4. MBA (6-1, 2-1 DII-AAA East Region)

Change: Up 1 spot (last week: 5th) | Last week: 14-10 win at CPA | This week: vs. Father Ryan
MBA has a short road trip for its final road game of the regular season with home games against McCallie and Ensworth waiting on the other side of their off week.

5. Lipscomb Academy (5-2, 2-0 DII-AAA West Region)

Change: Down 1 spot (last week: 4th) | Last week: 44-3 win vs. Father Ryan | This week: open date
The Mustangs are guaranteed a home playoff game after their win over Father Ryan, but they’ll look to secure more after the off week.

Medium Class

1. BGA (5-1, 3-0 DII-AA Middle Region)

BGA has 41 or more points in all five of its wins this year. Good chance they keep that streak going for a little while longer.

2. FRA (5-2, 3-1 DII-AA Middle Region)

Change: No change (last week: 2nd) | Last week: 41-10 win at Goodpasture | This week: vs. Antioch
FRA would like nothing better than to avenge last year’s loss at Antioch, and they’ll get their chance at home on Thursday.

3. Nolensville (7-0, 2-0 Region 5-5A)

Change: Up 1 spot (last week: 4th) | Last week: 36-6 win vs. Hillsboro | This week: at Centennial
Nolensville travels to winless Centennial on a short week before going on fall break, but they’re one step closer to a winner-take-all region championship game as long as they take care of business.

4. Page (6-1, 2-0 Region 5-5A)

Change: Down 1 spot (last week: 3rd) | Last week: 42-0 win vs. Lawson | This week: at Independence
Page’s next home game would come in the playoffs as their final three – beginning with this week’s trip to Independence – are road games.

5. Beech (6-1, 2-0 Region 6-4A)

Change: No change (last week: 5th) | Last week: 52-35 win vs. Station Camp | This week: open date
Beech carries a six-game win streak into its open date averaging 42.3 points per game during that stretch.

Small Class

1. Nashville Christian (5-1, 4-0 Division II-A Middle Region)

The Eagles return from their off week heading to Tyner to face one of only two teams that played them close last year.

2. East Robertson (7-0, 2-0 Region 6-2A)

The Indians once again matched their season-high in points with 49, doing so in back-to-back weeks.

3. Friendship Christian (6-1, 3-0 DII-A Middle Region)

Change: Down 1 spot (last week: tied-2nd) | Last week: 35-14 win at DCA | This week: open date
The Commanders head into the open date with a clear path to the region title after handling DCA.

4. East Nashville (4-3, 1-0 Region 6-2A)

Change: No change (last week: 4th) | Last week: 48-14 win vs. Stratford | This week: open date
East Nashville gets to its bye week in line to battle East Robertson for the region title as long as they handle their business before Oct. 30.

5. Gordonsville (6-1, 2-0 Region 4-2A)

Change: No change (last week: 5th) | Last week: 34-3 win vs. Westmoreland | This week: at Trousdale County
Like Page, the Tigers’ next home game would happen in the postseason as long as they handle things down the stretch. A resurgent Trousdale County team is their first hurdle toward that goal.
