615 Preps Week 6 Area Rankings: Three new teams jump into the rankings as the second half begins

Week 5 marks the halfway point of the regular season for most area teams and the rankings this week saw more stability than they have in the first half of the season.
The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top 10 large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area. Large Class teams include the 29 Class 6A and Division II-AAA teams in our coverage area. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA, totaling 25 squads. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, which contain 29 teams.
Large Class
1. Riverdale (4-1, 3-0 Region 3-6A)
Change: None (last week: 1st) | Last week: 55-6 win vs. Stewarts Creek | This week: at Columbia
The Warriors added another blowout region win to their resume on Thursday, and they’ll step outside 3-6A play for the final time this regular season when they travel to face another unbeaten team in Columbia.
2. Oakland (4-1, 1-1 Region 3-6A)
Change: None (last week: 2nd) | Last week: 55-6 win vs. Siegel | This week: vs. Blackman
Oakland still has a path to the Region 3-6A title so long as they hold up their end of the bargain in the second half, which begins with a rivalry game at home against Blackman.
3. MBA (5-0, 1-0 DII-AAA East Region)
Change: None (last week: 3rd) | Last week: 34-7 win vs. Knoxville Catholic | This week: at Baylor
MBA has handled the challenges of the first half, but now their largest test awaits when they head to Chattanooga to face Baylor.
4. Brentwood Academy (3-2, 1-0 DII-AAA West Region)
Change: None (last week: 4th) | Last week: 43-7 win at Christian Brothers | This week: at Ensworth
Brentwood Academy’s second half begins with a trip to face an Ensworth team that just took it on the chin for the second time in three games.
5. Lipscomb Academy (3-2, 1-0 DII-AAA West Region)
Change: None (last week: 5th) | Last week: 49-14 win at Ensworth | This week: vs. Christian Brothers (Mo.)
The team that put it to Ensworth last week continues to build momentum entering the second half of the season and the Mustangs could stack several more wins before they face Brentwood Academy at the end of the year.

Springfield’s region title hopes largely hinge on this week’s region opener against Pearl-Cohn, and especially after surviving East Nashville’s takedown bid.
3. FRA (4-1, 2-0 DII-AA Middle Region)

The Panthers enter this week’s showdown at BGA coming off of two comfortable wins in region play.

All roads lead to Page’s showdown with Nolensville at the end of next month, and the Patriots’ second-half road begins with a home game with Centennial this week.

Had Lawson won last week, the Knights would find themselves in a battle of unbeatens – instead, Nolensville has to watch out for a Lightning team that just lost the first game on its new field.

Back-to-back shutouts for the Eagles and only 19 points allowed outside of their loss at Ensworth.
2. East Robertson (5-0, 0-0 Region 6-2A)

The Indians held off a solid challenge from Kirkwood to enter the second half unbeaten as they begin region play.
3. Friendship Christian (4-1, 1-0 DII-A Middle Region)
Change: No change (last week: 3rd) | Last week: Forfeit win vs. Clarksville Academy | This week: vs. Ezell-Harding
It turned out to be a de facto open date for the Commanders due to Clarksville Academy’s low numbers, so they’ll get a little bit of rest heading into the second half of the season.
4. East Nashville (2-3, 0-0 Region 6-2A)
Change: No change (last week: 4th) | Last week: 27-26 loss at Springfield | This week: vs. East Hickman
Has any team had the misfortune of losing three games by a total of four points this season other than the Eagles? In any event, East Nashville is getting plenty of reps in late-game situations that should hopefully serve them well when they do reach the postseason.
5. Gordonsville (4-1, 1-0 Region 4-2A)

The Tigers got back to their winning ways last week and could put themselves in the driver’s seat for the 4-2A region title if they can hand Jackson County their first loss of the season.
