Week 4 Top 10 area games: Tough tests await several contenders

More region games pop up in the schedule in Week 4, but it’s a non-region battle that takes our Spotlight Game this week.
We combed through the list of area games and nailed down our top 10 for Week 4. Here’s a little bit about each one that made our list.
Spotlight Game: Beech (2-1) at East Nashville (2-1), Thursday
East Nashville continues its trend of taking on upper-class competition, and this time the Eagles get a matchup with four-star talent Jeramy Laster and the Beech Buccaneers.
The Bucs are coming off impressive wins over Mt. Juliet and Henry County and just got one of their most important pieces back in DK Williams. Meanwhile, East Nashville escaped a feisty Hillsboro squad last week in a shootout, putting up an astounding 52 points.
Both teams know the formula: play physical defense, make plays and let the offense take over. This one could turn into a heavyweight fight under the lights.
Gordonsville (3-0) at Liberty Creek (2-1)
Gordonsville heads to The Big House with one goal: show Liberty Creek just how physical this defense can be.
But Liberty Creek has been one of the surprise teams of the season so far. After giving East Robertson a serious scare and stuffing the stat sheet on both sides of the ball, the Wolves are looking for an even bigger statement.
Gordonsville wants to control the game with physical football. Liberty Creek wants to shock another opponent and potentially score one of the biggest wins in program history.
One team wants to prove it’s for real. The other wants to prove nobody is ready for them.
Cookeville (1-2) at Gallatin (3-0)
A critical Region 4-6A opener for both teams.
The Green Wave have been rolling early, and sophomore quarterback Landry Roddy is starting to look more comfortable every week. With weapons like K’Saun Barksdale and JoJo McMurray around him, Gallatin has plenty of firepower.
Cookeville enters after two straight losses and will be looking to flip the script with a statement win over the Green Wave.
Coach Stroup and his squad return home to Calvin Short Field looking to stay perfect through the first four weeks.
Ensworth (2-1) at McCallie (3-0)
Ensworth suffered its first loss of the season last week against a loaded Briarcrest Christian team, despite a strong effort from EJ Gibson.
Now, the Tigers get another shot at a powerhouse that they managed to take down last year.
McCallie remains undefeated after surviving narrow games against Lipscomb Academy and Father Ryan. With Ensworth coming in with a chip on its shoulder, the Blue Tornadoes could be in for another battle.
This is Round 3 of the area’s quest to knock off McCallie.
Lebanon (2-1) at Mt. Juliet (1-2)
Mt. Juliet put the area on notice last Friday, shutting out a talented Friendship Christian squad 30-0.
A big part of the Golden Bears’ success has come from testing themselves early, taking on teams like Antioch and Beech. Now, they face another familiar opponent.
Lebanon enters on a two-game winning streak and has been getting big plays from Arkansas State commit Gavin Gregory.
It’s the Battle of Wilson County, and bragging rights are on the line in addition to Region 4-6A positioning.
Milton (Ga.) (2-1) at BGA (3-0)
The stars are out for this one.
It’s a Georgia-Tennessee showdown as Bo Bryan and his wideouts welcome a talented Milton squad loaded with nationally ranked players.
Tennessee quarterback Derek Baker leads the Eagles into Franklin, giving this matchup another storyline to watch.
With talent all over the field and two programs that aren’t afraid of competition, this one has all the makings of a thriller.
Clear your schedule. This is must-see TV.
Nolensville (3-0) at Blackman (2-1)
Nolensville heads to Murfreesboro undefeated and looking to keep its perfect start alive.
Standing in the way is a Blackman team hungry for a response after a tough loss to Riverdale. Both teams bring a balanced attack on offense and defense, setting up what could be one of the most evenly matched games of the week.
Keep an eye on Blackman quarterback Chase Bell, who has already showcased his dual-threat ability this season.
Undefeated Nolensville vs. a Blackman team desperate to bounce back. Something has to give.
Davidson Academy (2-1) at Goodpasture (3-0)
One of the area’s biggest rivalries takes center stage in Week 4 as Davidson Academy heads to Goodpasture.
Through three games, the Cougars have been nearly unstoppable, shutting out every opponent while scoring at least 35 points in each game. There is nothing Davidson Academy would love more than to be the team that finally cracks the code.
Davidson Academy enters with two straight wins and now faces its biggest test of the season in a key region battle just up the street.
Page (3-0) at Brentwood (2-1)
For the fourth straight week, Brentwood finds itself in our Top 10 Games of the Week and that says plenty about the Bruins’ willingness to challenge themselves.
This time, they host Cameron Kruse and a battle-tested Page team that has continued to rack up impressive performances.
Kruse threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns while adding another score on the ground last week, and Page is rolling into this matchup with plenty of confidence.
The Patriots want to keep steamrolling opponents. Brentwood, meanwhile, is searching for its first signature win of the season.
Springfield (3-0) at Station Camp (2-1)
Get your popcorn ready.
Last season, Springfield took down Station Camp 55-35, and if history is any indication, we’re in for another offensive showcase.
This could also be Springfield’s toughest test yet. The Bison bring Colton Overbey and a dangerous offense to the table, while Springfield has its own playmaker to watch in five-star Jermaine Cobbins, who has been making plays all over the field.
If this game doesn’t push toward 60 combined points, you might be able to say both offenses struggled.
Expect fireworks. Lots of them.
