615 Preps Week 2 Area Rankings: Oakland’s back on top

Now that a full slate of games is in the books, there are already some shakeups in our area rankings.
The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top 10 large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area. Large Class teams include the 29 Class 6A and Division II-AAA teams in our coverage area. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA, totaling 25 squads. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, which contain 29 teams.
Large Class
1. Oakland
Change: Up 1 spot (last week: 2nd) | Last week: 56-7 win at CPA | This week: at Centerville (Ohio)
The Patriots found the end zone frequently in their opening-week win at CPA in which Jacob Vaughn rushed for 193 yards and two scores on just seven carries. This week, it’s a long road trip and a short week.
2. Brentwood Academy
Change: Down 1 spot (last week: 1st) | Last week: 38-20 loss at Baylor | This week: vs. Brentwood
The Eagles saw firsthand what they need to do in order to catch up to Baylor before any potential playoff rematch. Lex Baskin and Kesean Bowman each went over 100 receiving yards to get off to good starts for the season.
3. Ravenwood
Change: Up 1 spot (last week: 3rd) | Last week: 29-14 win vs. Madison Ridgeland Academy (Miss.) | This week: vs. Lipscomb Academy
Brooks Brown was highly efficient in the Raptors’ win over MRA, going 20 for 24 for 222 yards. They’ll take another week like that this time when they face Lipscomb Academy.
4. Riverdale

Brylan Oduor had a 100-yard receiving game and Hudson Fuqua’s pick-6 gave the Warriors a chance but ultimately Riverdale fell just short of coming back with an opening week win.
5. MBA
Change: Up 2 spots (last week: 7th) | Last week: 34-20 win at Pearl-Cohn | This week: vs. Hamilton
Charlie Verner shook off two pick-sixes to rush for three scores and throw for another one in the Big Red’s opening win at Pearl-Cohn.

Bo Bryan’s first start was a memorable one, as his 382-yard, three-TD performance was more than enough for the Wildcats to come back with their 10th consecutive victory dating back to last season.

Kwadir Fletcher rushed for three scores, Omarii Sanders had a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Mello Armstrong added a pick-6 in the Panthers’ season-opening win.

Cam Kruse tossed four touchdown passes and Isaac Otey had 204 rushing yards and a score as the Patriots ran their active win streak to 15 games.
4. Springfield

Jermaine Cobbins caught three passes for 142 yards and a score and Amiron Leavell had three rushing touchdowns in the Yellow Jackets’ dominant win.

Mikahi Moshay – an edge rusher – had two interception returns for touchdowns in the Firebirds’ opener.

Ryder Wolcott ran for 123 yards and a score in the Commanders’ shutout win over Trousdale County.
3. East Nashville

The Eagles forced five turnovers in their Saturday night win at Collierville.
4. East Robertson

Issac Prince rushed for 241 yards and three scores on 33 carries in the Indians’ overtime win over Liberty Creek.
5. Gordonsville

Gordonsville’s defense held Coalfield to just five first downs in their Week 1 win.
