There will be a new head coach in Cross Plains next season.
East Robertson head coach Chase Brooks informed 615 Preps that he would be resigning after four seasons with the Indians.
In his four seasons at East Robertson, Brooks led the Indians to a 46-7 record winning 10 or more games each season. East Robertson also made its first state championship appearance in school history under Brooks in 2023.
“After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to step down as the head football coach at East Robertson High School,” Brooks said. “This was not an easy decision, especially because of what we’ve been able to build here over the past four years. I’m incredibly proud of our players, our staff, and everything we’ve accomplished together.
…this program means a great deal to me, and I’m grateful for the support from this community throughout my time here.”
He also oversaw two Mr. Football winners in running back Iaiah Groves in 2023 and his younger brother Zach Groves, a Tennessee football signee, in 2025.
Last season the Indians went 12-1 losing to eventual Class 2A state champion Huntingdon in the state quarterfinals.
Brooks himself was a standout on the gridiron during his playing days. He was named a Mr. Football winner in 2000 while playing for Portland and led the Panthers to the 2000 Class 3A championship, their lone state title in school history.
His son Cade, a Bowling Green signee, was a standout with East Robertson the last four years. Last season he was one of the state’s top receivers catching 51 passes for 1,176 yards and 13 touchdowns.
“Ultimately, this decision comes down to family,” Brooks said. “I want to be more present and spend more time with them, and I’m especially looking forward to the opportunity to watch my son Cade continue his journey at Bowling Green State University.”
