We’re putting a bow on the high school basketball season with some all-area team selections.
Kicking things off, we’re taking a look at the top girls players in the area who played for large class programs. The 615 Preps large class coverage area includes teams in Division II-AA as well as Classes 4A and 3A.
Players selected to these teams are selected based on their season-long stats and nominations from their head coaches. Here’s a look at those selected to the 615 Preps large class girls teams:
Player of the Year: Ava Jarrett, Lipscomb Academy, Sr.
A Miss Basketball finalist, Jarrett capped off a prolific high school career by leading the Lady Mustangs to the DII-AA championship game against Knox Webb.
The Western Carolina signee was one of the area’s top scorers averaging 16.4 points an shot 35% from beyond-the-arc. Jarrett also averaged 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
Coach of the Year: Kari Douglas, Liberty Creek
Liberty Creek has only bee around for four years but this year Douglas and the Lady Wolves set a standard that teams in the upcoming years will try replicate.
Douglas led Liberty Creek to a program-record 30 wins while only losing five games. Liberty Creek went unbeaten in district play and posted 23 consecutive wins as they secured their first state tournament appearance in the school’s young history.
Team of the Year: CPA Lady Lions
CPA established itself as arguably one of the five best teams in the state this year regardless of class. They won the DII-AA Middle Region regular season title and then the tournament title as well.
Finishing the year 26-3, the Lady Lions made it back to the DII-AA semifinals, only suffered losses to two teams and won by an average of 21.8 points.
