Girls Basketball Rankings: CPA, Lipscomb Academy, PCA advance to DII semifinals

0 0

Postseason basketball play is in full-swing in the Volunteer State.

District titles were won and region tournaments began for many teams in the state last week. However, Division II programs were aiming much higher as they looked to lock in their spots for the Final Four in DII-AA and DII-A.

Based on last week’s results, our staff took some time to rank this week’s top five large and small class programs. The rankings are based on an average of where our staff ranked the teams.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.

Here’s a look at the top girls teams in our area entering the third week of February.

Large Class

1. CPA (26-2): Harpeth Hall gave the Lady Lions all they could handle for awhile but the Lady Lions are inevitable. They pulled away late for the 52-31 and set up a rematch with Knox Webb in the DII-AA semifinals.

2. Blackman (25-3): No close calls last week for the Lady Blaze. They crushed Stewarts Creek 59-39 and then won the district title with a 57-26 win over Riverdale.

3. Nolensville (25-4): The Lady Knights only played once last week and were impressive in that showing beating Columbia 64-30.

4. Lipscomb Academy (26-7): A trip to the semifinals had to be secured with a pair of wins. Thankfully the Lady Mustangs did just that beating CPA 58-44 and Knoxville Catholic 68-57.

5. Page (22-6): Region tournament play for the Lady Patriots began and they were dominant in that one game crushing Ravenwood 64-35.

Who just missed out: Green Hill (27-3), Lebanon (25-6)

Small Class

1. PCA (26-5): One win was all that separated the Lady Lions from a trip to the semifinals. They took care of business beating Grace Christian 46-35.

2. East Nashville (21-3): With the district title on the line, the Lady Eagles squared off with Pearl-Cohn for a third time beating the Firebirds 64-52. They then blitzed East Robertson 72-12 to open the region tournament.

3. Pearl-Cohn (23-6): It didn’t take much for the Lady Firebirds to bounce back from their district title loss to East Nashville. It was Whites Creek who caught their fury as Pearl-Cohn opened region tournament play with a 75-16 win.

4. MTCS (26-6): The shock of the week came unfortunately at the expense of the Lady Cougars. They squared off with CAK ultimately losing 64-62.

5. Ezell-Harding (32-3): After beating Northpoint Christian by 40, the Lady Eagles squared off with TKA with a spot in the DII-A semifinals on the line. Unfortunately their dream season came to an end as TKA pulled away late for the 51-42 win.

Who just missed out: Gordonsville (26-4), Smith County (20-11)
