The end of regular season inches ever so closer and for some teams, postseason play actually begins next week.
A week after Mother Nature caused chaos throughout the state, last week’s slate of games saw several programs play multiple games as they tried to make up from lost time caused by the storm.
Several of the area’s top programs took care of business. Others though, they faced some struggles leading to changes in this week’s area rankings.
Based on those results, our staff took some time to rank this week’s top five large and small class programs. The rankings are based on an average of where our staff ranked the teams.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.
Here’s a look at the top girls teams in our area entering the second week of February.
Large Class
1. Ensworth (16-3): The Lady Tigers continue to roll. They beat JPII by 32 and Harpeth Hall by 13 before avenging the loss to Father Ryan with a 47-37 win over the Lady Irish.
2. CPA (20-2): After beating Father Ryan by 17, the Lady Lions had one of their best showings of the season in a 58-45 home win over Lipscomb Academy.
3. Lebanon (20-4): The Devilettes had blowout wins over Gallatin (70-16) and Beech (57-38) but their biggest win came at home as they took down Green Hill 45-40.
4. Green Hill (22-2): Close games were what the Lady Hawks faced last week as they fell to Lebanon by five and beat Hendersonville 34-30.
5. Blackman (20-3): Dominant is the best way to describe the Lady Blaze the last few weeks. Recently they crushed Siegel 53-10 and Stewarts Creek 60-22.
Who just missed out: Nolensville (20-4), Page (17-6)
Small Class
1. Ezell-Harding (27-0): The Lady Eagles made school history as they beat DCA (54-46), Goodpasture (68-48) and Davidson Academy (89-39) to become the first team in school history to finish the regular season unbeaten.
2. PCA (19-4): Neither Webb-Bell Buckle nor GCA posed much of a threat to the Lady Lions. They cruised past Webb 64-30 and closed out the regular season with a 58-14 win over the Lady Lions.
3. Pearl-Cohn (18-4): Arguably the quietest and most dangerous team in 2A is the Lady Firebirds. They crushed Stratford by 38 and LEAD Academy by 32 but their most impressive win was a 75-54 road victory over East Nashville.
4. MTCS (20-4): It was an up-and-down week for the Lady Cougars. They did suffer a five-point road loss to FRA but also picked up wins over BGA (66-47), St. Cecilia Academy (47-33) and Webb-Bell Buckle (55-52).
5. East Nashville (14-3): The loss to Pearl-Cohn was disappointing but the Lady Eagles also picked up a big win as they cruised past Stratford 74-34.
Who just missed out: FRA (20-5), DCA (21-5)
