January has its midway point and district play is now in full-swing with teams hitting the hardest parts of their schedules.
With that in mind, our staff once again put together their rankings for our teams in the 615. Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.
Here’s a look at the top boys teams in our area entering the third week of January.
Large Class
1. Lipscomb Academy (21-1): Cam Blivens and the Mustangs offense continued to operate at a high-clip scoring 81 in a four-point won over MBA and 77 in a 16-point win over CPA.
2. Brentwood Academy (17-4): After dismantling MBA by 21, the Eagles closed out the week with an impressive 77-47 win over Hume-Fogg.
3. Brentwood (18-2): Independence gave the Bruins all they could handle in a 67-62 win Brentwood win. The Bruins then put on an offensive clinic to beat Centennial 89-74.
4. Pope John Paul II (16-5): After beating Ensworth 68-55 to start the week, the Knights got all they could handle from Father Ryan in a 46-44 win over the Fighting Irish.
5. Beech (19-2): Cutter Sisk and the Bucs continue to show why they’re a contender in 4A as they had no issues beating Wilson Central (75-46) and Gallatin 62-35.
Who just missed out: Blackman (14-3), Summit (13-4)
Small Class
1. BGA (19-4): Winners of six straight, the Wildcats beat Grace Christian, Franklin Christian and Cane Ridge by an average of 20.3 points.
2. Eagleville (17-0): All the Eagles do right now is win and win by a lot. Last week they beat Santa Fe 64-47 and Mt. Pleasant 82-35.
3. PCA (14-6): The Lions crushed FRA by 21 early in the week but faced a stiffer challenged against Imhotep Charter out of Pennsylvania losing to the Panthers by 10.
4. Cannon County (15-3): Neither Sequatchie County nor York Institute posed much of a threat to the Lions. They won those games by an average of 14 points.
5. FRA (16-3): Instead getting down after the loss to PCA, the Panthers bounced back in a big way by going to Columbia Academy and beating the Bulldogs 81-72.
Who just missed out: White House Heritage (14-5), Jo Byrns (11-5)
