Boys Basketball Rankings: Jarron Talley’s return sparks JPII

0 0

District play is in full-swing now for teams across the state and through one full week, several teams in the 615 have gotten off to strong starts.

For others, it’s a mixed bag and others have started a step behind. That ensuing chaos has caused some shakeups in this week’s area rankings.

Based on the average of their selections, we came to a conclusion. Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.

Here’s a look at the top 20 boys teams in our area entering the second week of January.

Large Class

1. Lipscomb Academy (19-1): Cam Blivens and the Mustangs had a week to remember as they first picked up a 65-59 win over JPII and closed out the week with a dominant 69-48 win over Father Ryan.

2. Brentwood Academy (15-4): Father Ryan was the lone thorn in the Eagles side as the Fighting Irish upset them 66-64. Aside from that result, the Eagles beat CPA 59-50 and Ensworth 59-33.

3. Brentwood (16-2): After opening the week with a 29-point win over Summit, the Bruins faced a scare against Nolensville. The Bruins held on to win the game 60-58.

4. Pope John Paul II (14-5): The biggest news of the week for the Knights was the return of senior Jarron Talley. He shined in that return scoring 27 points and knocking down six 3-pointers in an 80-54 win over MBA.

5. Beech (17-2): Cutter Sisk and the Buccaneers established themselves as the team to beat in District 7-4A as they crushed Mt. Julier 60-22 and Station Camp 63-44.

Who just missed out: Blackman (12-3), Franklin (13-2)

Small Class

1. BGA (16-4): It was another strong week for the top-ranked Wildcats as they cruised past FRA 75-53 and closed the week with a 58-32 win over Columbia Academy.

2. PCA (13-5): In a three-game week, the Lions had no issues beating Franklin Christian by 59, Webb-Bell Buckle by 27 and GCA by 34.

3. Eagleville (15-0): Pure dominance is the only way to describe the week for the Eagles. They beat Culleoka 81-23 and Hampshire 88-9.

4. Cannon County (13-3): Aside from an ugly loss to Tullahoma on Saturday, the Lions had a strong week beating Central Magnet by 14 and Monterey by 37.

5. FRA (15-2): After dropping one to BGA, the Panthers bounced back by beating GCA by 14 and ZCA by 30.

Who just missed out: Westmoreland (14-2), White House Heritage (13-2)
