Week 3 of the high school football season was a weird one thanks to Mother Nature.
Several high-profile games were canceled due to severe weathers. Most of the area moved to Saturday in an attempt to get their games in. Those changes resulted in quite a few shocking results.
For some of our top teams, it was also a chance to make a statement. A few in particular did just that resulting in a few changes in this week’s area rankings.
The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action. This rankings are based off of results, head-to-head matchups and current form for teams.
Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.
Large Class
1. Oakland (3-0): The Patriots and Smyrna were only able to get a half in due to weather but that was more than enough for Oakland as opened region play with a 35-0 win.
2. Brentwood Academy (2-0): A highly-anticipated bout featuring several future Division I players never happened storms ultimately resulted in a no-contest between the Eagles and Baylor.
3. Ravenwood (3-0):Â Saturday night was a statement night for the Raptors. Exploding for 40 points in the first half, they cruised past Green Hill 43-14 in their home-opener.
4. Blackman (3-0):Â Any questions regarding the Blaze’s defense were answered with an astounding statement as Blackman beat Riverdale 17-10 in the ‘Backyard Brawl’. Blackman’s defense is only allowing an average 7.3 points per game.
5. Ensworth (2-1):Â Self-inflicted errors prevented the Tigers from really pulling away from Briarcrest Christian. Ensworth still found a way to hold on for the 21-14 win.
