615 Preps Week 3 Top Games: Green Hill, Ravenwood set for first showdown

0 0

The first two weeks of the high school football season have passed and this season is shaping up to be another great one. Week 3 promises to be just as fun as the first two.

If you’re in the 615 this week, you’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to selecting what game you want to be at.

From rivalry games, region matchups and a few first ever meetings, our top-10 list of games features a plethora of must-watch matchups and we’re only three weeks in.

Here’s a look at the games that made our list highlighted by the showdown between Green Hill and Ravenwood

Spotlight Series Game: Green Hill (1-1) at Ravenwood (2-0)

The Hawks are looking for a bounce back but things won’t come easy with their first road test of 2025. Chris Brooks/615 Preps

The first ever meeting between Green Hill and Ravenwood features a pair of teams looking to bounce back after a rough Week 2.

Ravenwood won’t have as big of a bounce back as they found a way to outlast Lipscomb Academy 22-21. For Green Hill, the Hawks are looking to get some payback against another Williamson County team after Page crushed them 44-21.

For fans of quarterback play, this is the game for you. Green Hill’s Kannon Burroughs going against Ravenwood’s duo of Femi Babalola and Maverick Chance is more than worth the price of admission.

Baylor (2-0) at Brentwood Academy (2-0)

After cruising through the first two weeks, the Eagles get a chance to put a stamp on themselves as true contenders in Division II-AAA in Week 3.

Baylor and McCallie have dominated the DII-AAA scene over the last five years and it looks like they’re still the class of the division in 2025.

Brentwood Academy is one of the few area teams with a roster that looks like it could contend with either school. Crews Jenkins has lived up to the hype so far and Kesean Bowman has proven to be one of the state’s top receivers again.

Blackman (2-0) at Riverdale (1-1)

Whether you call it ‘The Backyard Brawl’ or ‘The Kreisky Bowl’, just know you’re going to see one of the area’s best rivalries Friday night if you’re headed to Riverdale.

The Warriors bounced back in an impressive way last week shutting out Father Ryan 35-0. As for the Blaze, they haven’t been tested much this season beating Clarksville and Cane Ridge by a combined score of 65-12.

Riverdale leads the overall series and the Warriors have dominated in recent memory. The Warriors have won the last three meetings and five of the last six games.

Centennial (1-1) at Gallatin (2-0)

Fans of offensive football need to get to Gallatin Friday night if they want an offensive showcase.

Jackson Stroup leads a potent Green Wave offense against Mitchell Grandjean and a Cougars offense that’s one of the best in the area.

Grandjean’s transfer from Page to Centennial has proven to be fruitful for the senior. With the Cougars averaging 42 points per game, Grandjean has 705 yards and eight touchdowns.

East Robertson (2-0) at Jo Byrns (2-0)

It’s homecoming week for the Indians and they get the chance to square off against one of their oldest rivals on one of the biggest night’s of the season.

Jo Byrns leads the overall series 43-26 but its been all East Robertson in recent memory with the Indians winning the last six meetings in convincing fashion. This will also be Jo Byrns’ first time entering this game unbeaten since 2018.

East Robertson bounced back from its Week 1 scare against Liberty Creek with a dominant defensive outing as they shut out JPII 24-0. For the Red Devils, they’ve cruised the first two weeks beating MJCA 42-8 and Ballard Memorial (Ky.) 40-0.

MBA (2-0) at FRA (2-0)

How about the Big Red?

MBA proved its Week 1 win over Pearl-Cohn was no fluke by shutting out Hamilton 40-0 last week.

For FRA, the Panthers need to figure out their slow starts. In wins over South Gibson and Cookeville they started off slow before rolling to double-digit wins in both games. Playing a Big Red defense that’s clicking this week, a slow start may be harder to overcome.

Oakland (2-0) at Smyrna (1-1)

A new region foe for the Patriots lies in the Bulldogs. Will they be the ones to give them a challenge at the top?

So far the Patriots look like the Class of 6A once again following a 28-14 win over CPA and dominant 49-0 win over Huntington (W.V.).

Smyrna opened the year with a narrow one-point loss to Brentwood but got back on track last week beating Hendersonville 31-20

Pearl-Cohn (0-2) at BGA (2-0)

Kaedyn Marable’s put up video game-like numbers through the Wildcats’ first two blowout wins. Cam Reid/615 Preps

If you’re looking for the best winless team in the area, look no further than Pearl-Cohn. Narrow losses to CPA and MBA stung but things don’t get easier as they face arguably one of the hottest teams around.

Kaedyn Marable has the Wildcats rolling and is your early runaway favorite to win DII-AA Mr. Football.

Not only is Marable rolling but the Wildcats have figured it out on the defensive side of the ball. A couple of garbage time touchdowns against Jackson Prep are the only points they’ve allowed so far.

Springfield (2-0) at Portland (2-0)

After back-to-back wins, the Yellow Jackets square off against a Portland defense that’s rolled so far. Scott Burton/615 Preps

This is a revenge game for the Panthers in more than one aspect.

With the loss to Springfield last year, Portland missed out on the postseason despite having a better overall record. Now the host, they’re looking for a get back game.

For Springfield, the Yellow Jackets will have to find a way to crack what’s been a stout Panthers defense so far in 2025. Through two games they have yet to give up a point or more than 100 yards in either game.

Tupelo (1-0) at CPA (1-1)

Things don’t get easier for the Lions this week as they host one of Mississippi’s top programs. Cam Reid/615 Preps

CPA’s gauntlet of a 2025 schedule rolls on with an out-of-state matchup as the Lions now host one of the best out of Mississippi.

The Golden Wave rolled to a 14-0 season and state title winning by an average of just over 20 points per game.

Led by a host of future SEC talents, this has an argument to called the hardest game on the Lions’ schedule this season. Rawls Patterson and Owen Cabell need to stand out in this one.
