The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action. This rankings are based off of results, head-to-head matchups and current form for teams.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

Large Class

1. Oakland (2-0): The Patriots met Huntington (W.V.) at the midway point between the schools and showed one of West Virginia’s finest that Tennessee high school football is a bit different. Between a stout defensive performance and some standout special teams plays, the Patriots rolled to a 49-0 win.

2. Brentwood Academy (2-0): It was the Larry Sanders show in the Eagles’ 45-21 win over Brentwood. While the passing game was lighting it up, Sanders was bullying the Bruins on the ground rushing for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

3. Ravenwood (2-0): For the second row in a week the Raptors found themselves in a battle and somehow found a way to come out on top. Femi Babalola converted a two-point conversion to lift Ravenwood past Lipscomb Academy 22-21.

4. Ensworth (1-1): The Tigers led by 14 at one point before Nashville Christian turned the game into a shootout. That would bode well for the Eagles as they were able to force overtime late and scored a game-winning two-point conversion to beat Ensworth 42-41.

5. CPA (1-1): Pearl-Cohn gave the Lions all they could handle but it was a 99-yard fumble returned for six that turned the tide in CPA’s favor. The Lions scored 21 straight to beat the Firebirds 42-34.

2. FRA (2-0): Cookeville had no answer for the Panthers’ running back duo of Mike Hassell and Kwadir Fletcher. They combined to rush for 200 yards and four touchdowns in a 40-14 win.

3. Page (2-0): It was another offensive masterclass for the Patriots as they blew past Green Hill 44-21. Cam Kruse threw for 146 yards and two touchdowns in the win while the duo of James Pierre and Isaac Otey combined to rush for 197 yards and three touchdowns.

4. Springfield (2-0): In an old school battle, the Yellow Jackets used a punishing ground game to beat Clarksville 19-7. Jaidon Hurst ran for a pair of touchdowns in the win.

5. Macon County (2-0): Another close game at the half, the Tigers broke things open in the second half en route to their sixth straight win over Westmoreland via a score of 35-15. Matthew Wheeley ran for 114 yards and scored twice on the ground.

Small Class

1. Nashville Christian (2-0): Jared Curtis had a hand in all six of the Eagles’ touchdowns as they rallied from an early deficit to beat Ensworth by one in a Game of the Year candidate.

2. East Robertson (2-0): It was a dominant defensive performance from the Indians as they shut out JPII 24-0. Kason Young paced the offense throwing two touchdowns and running another in.

3. Friendship Christian (2-0): No blowouts this week for the Commanders as Fayetteville gave them all they could handle. Kicker Wilson Boyd proved to be the difference as his 26-yarder with six seconds remaining handed Friendship the 50-48 win.

4. East Nashville (0-2): The Eagles looked to be a in a good spot to pull out a major win over the Bears despite KJ Johnson getting injured and Kinnie Fuller missing the game. Unfortunately for them, they came out on the short end again losing 32-27.

5. Gordonsville (2-0): In a battle between Tigers and Purple Tigers, it was the team wearing blue coming out on top as Gordonsville won a 17-6 slugfest.
