How Antioch’s Adams brothers propelled Bears past East Nashville 32-27

It’s no surprise that much of the Metro Nashville football crowd had their eyes locked on Andre Adams and Antioch Friday night.

Early on, though, it looked like the spotlight might be too bright as East Nashville took an early lead and self-inflicted errors plagued the Bears.

That’s when the Adams brothers changed everything.

Midway through the second quarter Andre dropped back and launched a 50-yard touchdown strike to his younger brother, Aaden “Bug” Adams — a freshman playing in just his first varsity season for his first career touchdown.

That play got things going for the Bears as they would go on to outduel off the Eagles 32-27 starting off 2-0 for the season in a row.

“I’m feeling great,” Aaden said, still smiling minutes after the game. “First touchdown of the season, we love it.”

From that moment on, the Bears rode a wave of energy that never let up.

Andre followed up with another deep ball — this time a 65-yard connection with his go-to target, Brandon Goliday. He then added a rushing touchdown of his own before finding Goliday again through the air.

Finally, with the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Andre sealed the deal with his legs.

“We didn’t have any type of momentum at first, couldn’t move the ball, had bad reads, it just took some feeling out,” Andre said. It was just a little bit of adversity, but we never gave up. During halftime, I just talked to the guys.

…I put the first half on me — I wasn’t playing good. The defense could keep it up, and I know what I can do. But I just told them, ‘Don’t even worry, I’m going to play better in the second half.’”

The family connections on the field made the victory even sweeter. Their father, Kenny Adams, is Antioch’s offensive coordinator — giving him the unique perspective of both coach and dad.

“As a dad, it was expected early,” Kenny said. “As a coach, I felt like we executed what we needed to execute. We got off to a slow start, but chemistry is everything, man.

When you build a brotherhood with your teammates — and your teammate is actually your little brother — you’ve kinda been doing this since the backyard. It was natural. Bug came in and set the tone for us.”
