DCA tight end Carson Sneed made his college decision much sooner than most originally committing to Tennessee last August.
Despite that early commitment, other schools remained steadfast in their recruitment of the 6-foot-6, 250-pounder. He also continued taking his visits keeping his options open.
That persistence from North Carolina in particular has paid off as Sneed announced that he had flipped his commitment from the Volunteers to the Tar Heels on Friday.
Sneed had been committed to Tennessee since last August.
North Carolina first offered Sneed in February and he’s taken multiple visits to Chapel Hill since then.
Once his high school career is over, he’ll get the chance to play with his older brother Dayton who transferred to North Carolina after starting his college career at Tennessee.
A two-way standout at DCA, Carson spent a majority of his freshman year playing on the offensive line instead of tight end due to injuries the team suffered throughout the year. Even in that limited time he was able to account for 14 touchdowns on 18 catches.
Last season he spent more time in his natural position and finished second on the team in receiving with 33 catches for 409 yards and six touchdowns.
While he’s projected to play tight end at the next level, it could be argued that he’s at his best on the defensive line. When he plays on defense, Carson’s accounted for 107 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and four sacks.
