As a sophomore, Oakland two-way standout Craig Tutt began making waves on the recruiting scene. That momentum only carried into Tutt’s junior season.
Following a Mr. Football-caliber type of season while leading the Patriots back to the top of the Class 6A mountain, Tutt narrowed his list over 30 college offers down to three.
On Friday he made his college decision and while he may be staying in SEC country, he won’t be staying in his home state.
Tutt announced his commitment to the Rebels choosing Ole Miss over SEC rivals Auburn and Tennessee.
“I really didn’t feel any pressure during all of this,” Tutt said a day before his commitment. “At the end of a day it’s just a decision and I don’t think were any wrong decisions to make. I feel like I made the right decision.
…the process as a whole has been hard. It’s got its ups, its downs and even goes sideways, but ultimately it’s a blessing to get to choose what school I get to go to.”
Last year’s 615 Preps Large Class Player of the Year and a Mr. Football finalist, Tutt capped off a standout junior career leading Oakland to its fourth Class 6A state title in the last five years.
He led the Patriots ground game once Morris went down early in the year rushing for 1,250 yards and scoring 21 offensive touchdowns. Tutt was just as effective on defense recording 64 total tackles, seven pass breakups, three tackles for loss and an interception.
In Oakland’s 42-20 championship win over Houston, Tutt ran 84 yards and scored the game-clinching touchdown. On defense he recorded three tackles and broke up a pair of passes.
Tutt is ranked as a four-star prospect according to three of the four major recruiting outlets. On3 is the highest on Tutt ranking him as the No. 109 player in the country, the No. 9 safety and No. 5 player in the state for the 2026 class.
With Tutt’s pledge, Ole Miss’ 2026 class consists of 14 commitments. Tutt gives the Rebels six pledges on the defensive side of the ball and is currently their only safety commitment.
