Josh Heupel’s made it a habit of landing under-the-radar in-state talent and those players shining once they get to Knoxville.
Saturday morning he added another piece to the Vols’ rising 2026 class in Franklin safety Luke Thompson.
After multiple down years, the Admirals had a renaissance season in 2024 with Thompson being a major reason why.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound two-way standout racked up 750 total yards with six touchdowns on offense. On defense he had 68 tackles and three picks en route to being named Region 6-6A Athlete of the Year.
Thompson is ranked as a three-star prospect by both On3 and 247Sports. On3 ranks him as the No. 20 player in the state while 247 has him at No. 18.
With his pledge the Vols now have 10 commitments in their 2026 class including five in-state players.
