East Robertson at East Nashville highlights top-10 small class games in 2025

0 0

As the 2025 high school football season inches closer and closer, we can’t help but look ahead to schedule’s for the new season.

With each schedule we’re continually circling and highlighting games we think will be in the ‘must-watch’ category in 2025. So what are the 10 best games we’ve found?

Earlier in the week we highlighted the top-10 large and medium class games in 2025.

What will determine the category for each game will be the home team for that matchup. If a small class school is hosting a large class school, that game will be featured in the small class list.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

With that in mind, here are the top-10 small games we’ve found entering the 2025 season:

1. East Robertson at East Nashville

Date: October 30

Summary: Barring some massive upset, this Thursday night matchup should be for the region championship.

There’s no shortage of stars here as East Robertson standouts like Zach Groves, Kason Young and Cade Brooks take on East Nashville’s Dallas Covington, KJ Johnson, Kinnie Fuller and Cam Wade.

Week 11 has some huge matchups but if you’re in the 615 on October 30, head over to East Nashville for what should be one of the state’s best games of the year.

2. Ensworth at Nashille Christian

Date: August 29

Summary: We all known Nashville Christian will be one of the state’s best programs regardless of class but just how good will the Eagles be?

A win over a DII-AAA powerhouse like Ensworth would viewed by many as the win of the year and for good reason.

Ensworth’s secondary led by Minnesota commitment Justin Hopkins will be the best that Georgia five-star quarterback pledge Jared Curtis should see all season.

3. Springfield at East Nashville

Date: September 19

Summary: Springfield plays Metro Nashville’s two best programs over the last 5-10 years in back-to-back weeks. Before they host Pearl-Cohn, the Yellow Jackets will first head out to East Nashville.

Both teams feature standouts at both quarterback and in the running back department. One key matchup in this game will be Springfield rising sophomore Jermaine Cobbins matching up with East Nashville do-it-all star Cam Wade.

4. Portland at East Robertson

Date: September 5

Summary: This matchup is a unique one while the school’s are less than 15 miles away from each other, East Robertson and Portland have somehow never played each other.

That ends in 2025 and fans in attendance should be in for a good one.

The Panthers bring back a solid group led by Keilen Dalton and Avery Hughes. East Robertson is a Class 2A favorite for a good reason as they’re led by Tennessee commitment Zach Groves and 2024 Mr. Football finalist Kason Young.

5. Antioch at East Nashville

Date: August 29

Summary: East Nashville kicks off its year playing a pair Metro Nashville schools in its first three games. The first of those is in Week 2 as they host Class 6A Antioch.

It could be argued that Andre Adams may be the best quarterback the Eagles defense faces in 2025. On the flip side of that, East Nashville has two of the best running backs the Bears will face all season.

Expect a high-scoring showdown on Nashville’s east side this night.

6. Smith County at Gordonsville

Date: October 30

Summary: Typically played Week 1, fans of this rivalry will have to wait all year for this year one as it’s now a region matchup.

Smith County holds a commanding series lead against its crosstown rival but these game has been a back-and-forth affair for the last few years.

It’s one of the best rivalries around and one we’re excited to bring to you more in-depth on this year’s addition of ‘Love to Hate’.

7. Nashville Christian at DCA

Date: September 5

Summary: Many expect Nashville Christian to cruise through most of its games this season and for good reason. The Eagles have several future Division I players on their roster including an elite five-star quarterback.

However, if any team in their region was to give them a game, it would likely be DCA.

The Wildcats are retooling in several spots but having Carson Sneed gives them a weapon that’s hard to defend.

8. Moore County at Eagleville

Date: October 3

Summary: Moore County’s been a pain in Eagleville’s side for years now. With Region 5-1A wide-open in 2025 and no clear favorite, is this the year the Eagles get back to the top?

Last season’s game provided some glimpses of hope for the Eagles. Moore County had blown them out in their previous matchups but last year was only able to hold on for a 21-14 win.

9. White House Heritage at Sycamore

Date: October 24

Summary: Sycamore quietly had a great season in 2024 finishing second in region-play behind White House Heritage. The Patriots won that regular season game by 28.

Expect a closer game this time around.

The Patriots graduated several key pieces from that team while the War Eagles bring back the core from their 2024 squad. Expect another high-scoring game led by Hicks Hunter and Xavier Murray.

10. Watertown at Gordonsville

Date: August 29

Summary: Another great rivalry game, the Tigers and Purple Tigers had an electric 2024 meeting with Gordonsville holding on for the 26-19 win.

That win ended a two-year losing streak in the series for the Tigers, however, they hold a commanding lead in the overall series.

When it comes to small class teams, this should be a great quarterback matchup as Gordonsville’s J Foster takes on rising Watertown junior Blake Walford.
