Nolensville hires Scott Stidham as head football coach

1 1

Nolensville has found its new head football coach and the Knights didn’t have to look far.

The school announced that former Independence and South Gibson coach Scott Stidham has been named the program’s third head coach on Monday.

Stidham replaces Paul Derrick who stepped down in March after seven seasons leading the program.

“I am very thankful to Dr. Calvert, Mr. Vassar, Coach Hudson and the entire selection committee for giving me the honor of being the third head football coach at Nolensville High School,” Stidham said in a release. “I am honored to follow in the footsteps of coach Paul Derrick and before him, Will Hester. They laid the foundation in 2016, and they are why Knights football has been so successful.

…I look forward to working daily with the coaches and players to continue to make this program something that our school and the entire Nolensville community will be proud of. It’s a great day to be a Knight!”

Stidham brings plenty of experience to the table for the Knights.

He spent 13 seasons in West Tennessee at South Gibson leading the Hornets to a 79-41 record. During that stretch they made it to the playoffs nine times and won region titles in 2012 and 2019.

In late 2021 he was named the head coach at Independence replacing long-time coach Scott Blade. During his time at Independence, the Eagles went 13-20 and made the postseason each season.

Stidham takes over a Nolensville program that is coming off of three straight seasons with seven or more wins and has never missed the postseason. The Knights only had one losing season during Derrick’s tenure and three years ago finished the season 12-1.

Last year Nolensville finished second in Region 6-5A with their lone region loss coming to Page. The Knights finished the year 7-5 and lost to Shelbyville 33-28 in the first round of the playoffs.
