Final Boys Basketball Rankings: Hillsboro, PCA win state titles

0 0

The high school basketball season has officially come to an end and two area programs ended the year on top.

It was a year unlike any other but for Hillsboro and PCA, they sit alone at the top as our only area prothgrams to win state titles. So they of course end the year as our No. 1 teams.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.

Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.

Large Class

1. Hillsboro (35-5): The dream season for the Burros became a reality. They beat Maryville 53-47, Bradley Central 63-48 and Oak Ridge 57-42 en route to the program’s first state championship.

2. Hume-Fogg (28-4): The best season in school history once again came to an end at the hands of the Upperman Bees. Hume-Fogg got off to a slow start offensively and couldn’t recover losing in the Class 3A quarterfinals 54-40.

3. MBA (23-7): The Big Red lost to Briarcrest Christian 44-42 in the DII-AA semifinals.

4. Pope John Paul II (27-5): JPII’s season ended in the quarterfinals with an 80-78 double overtime loss to MBA.

5. Independence (21-12): In a game many predicted to a blowout loss for the Eagles, Indy and Mark Wilkins showed why they’re the best around. The Eagles stayed step-for-step with top-ranked Whitehaven throughout but missed free throws doomed them in a 40-36 loss to the Tigers.
