Week 12 Boys Basketball Rankings: Hume-Fogg ups win streak to eight

As crazy as it sounds, the 12th week of the high school basketball season has arrived. It also means we’re one step closer to postseason play.

Last week’s slate of games also brought about a few changes in this week’s area rankings.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.

Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.

Large Class

1. Hillsboro (21-5): The Burros weren’t tested much last week as they rolled past McGavock 76-21 and Hunters Lane 79-31.

2. MBA (19-3): Collin O’Neal averaged 24 points per game in each of the Big Red’s wins over CPA (68-58) and Ensworth (53-49).

3. Pope John Paul II (22-3): Osby Cavin scored 18 points as the Knights held off multiple Lipscomb Academy runs to hold on to a 64-57 win.

4. Hume-Fogg (18-3): It was a big week for the Blue Knights as they seperated themselves at the top of District 10-5A. They beat Lawson 47-37 on the road and pulled away late at home to beat MLK 74-58.

5. Father Ryan (15-7): A balanced scoring effort was what was needed for the Irish as they held on to beat Brentwood Academy 56-45

Small Class

1. Goodpasture (22-1): It was business as usual for the Cougars as they upped their winning streak to 17 games in a row with wins over Clarksville Academy (74-38) and MJCA (87-24).

2. Providence Christian (19-2): No upsets this week for the Lions. They crushed USN 66-39 before beating MTCS 84-44.

3. Eagleville (19-2): The Eagles picked up another win over a 4A team when they beat Rockvale 58-46 on Monday. They followed that up a few days later blowing out Moore County 74-28.

4. Friendship Christian (18-5): A three-win week secured the second spot in the DII-A Middle Region for the Commanders. Their 88-71 win over Ezell-Harding was the highlight of the week for Friendship Christian.

5. Liberty Creek (17-6): Make it six wins in a row and seven of the last eight for the Wolves. They beat East Robertson by 12 and avenged an earlier season loss to White House Heritage with a 56-38 win of their own.
