Nine weeks of the high school basketball season have now come and gone. Through those nine weeks, we’ve gotten a good idea on who the area’s best programs are.
Even with that information, surprises are still bound to happen. That’s led to a few changes in this week’s area rankings.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.
Here’s a look at the top 20 teams in our area entering the fifth week of the season.
Large Class
1. Pope John Paul II (20-2): The Knights are back to their winning ways and did so in a big way. Last week they picked up four victories beating Brentwood Academy (67-53), CPA (74-40), Father Ryan (65-52) and Cane Ridge (75-60).
2. Hillsboro (18-4): After blowout wins over Hunters Lane (68-26) and Overton (63-48), the Burros picked up one of their best wins on Saturday. They traveled to MBA for the Best in Class event beating the Big Red 69-58 on their home court.
3. Ensworth (15-4): Jonathan Sanderson has quickly established himself as a Mr. Basketball favorite. He scored 32 in a 72-66 win over Father Ryan and 41 in the Tigers’ 79-53 win at CPA.
4. MBA (14-3): A win 61-48 win over Lipscomb Academy was the highlight of the win for the Big Red. They couldn’t close it out with another win though as they lost at home to Hillsboro.
5. Hume-Fogg (14-3): MLK gave the Blue Knights a scare as Hume-Fogg hold on for the 50-47 rivalry win. They followed that up with blowout wins over LEAD Academy (69-46) and Glencliff 74-27.

Small Class
1. Providence Christian (16-1): A 61-53 win over Webb-Bell Buckle is the closest any team has gotten to the Lions in some time. They closed out the week beating GCA 80-40 for their 15th win in a row.
2. Goodpasture (17-1): The Cougars handed Ezell-Harding its first loss of the season beating the Eagles 78-61 on their home court. They then closed out the week beating Friendship Christian 71-60.
3. White House Heritage (15-3): All the Patriots do at the moment is roll. They crushed East Robertson 58-38 and played even better at Trousdale County beating the Yellow Jackets 63-17.
4. Eagleville (16-2): After beating Richland 59-45, the Eagles continued their win streak in dominant fashion. They beat Huntland 70-26 for their fifth win in a row.
5. Ezell-Harding (18-2): It was a rough week for the Eagles. They suffered their first loss of the season to Goodpasture before dropping their second in a row in an 81-79 loss to Nashville Christian.
