Football’s winding down which means the basketball season is quickly approaching,

The 2024-25 season tips off next week and Middle Tennessee is loaded with teams that should contend for state titles. Before any team takes to the court, we decided to take a look at the 10 large class girls and 10 small class girls teams in our area headed into the year.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA.

Here’s a look at those 20 teams.

Large Class

1. Page: Coming up and playing in a new class and district seemed to cause the Lady Patriots no issues last season. They went unbeaten in district play and return nearly all of their main contributors including Mary Elizabeth Fox (15 ppg).

2. Nolensville: The Lady Knights are one of the deepest teams in Williamson County this year and have the depth to make some noise well into the postseason. Leilani Washington is a name that needs to be on everyone’s radar.

3. Lebanon: Going 23-9 last season, the Devilettes recorded their seventh consecutive season where they won 20 or more games. Led by senior guard Tiara Spencer (12 ppg), there’s a good shot that streak goes to eight straight.

4. Brentwood: Ella Ryan enters her final year of high school ball and now has a coach that’s raised a couple of gold balls. John Wilkins is the new head man for the Lady Bruins and comes to Brentwood following an illustrious career at McKenzie where he led the Lady Rebels to back-to-back state titles in 2022 and 2023.

5. CPA: The Division II-AA title scene is a little murky but you can expect the Lady Lions to be in the mix again. Lily Morrow (12 ppg) and Merli Routh (11.7 ppg) will lead a group that made it to the state semifinals last season and pushed eventual state champion Knox Catholic to the end.

Page rose up a class and had no issues in a new and loaded district going unbeaten in those games during the regular season.

10. Blackman

Small Class

1. Goodpasture: It took a Herculean effort from USJ’s Haylen Ayers in last season’s DIvision II-A championship to keep a gold ball coming back to Madison. The Lady Cougars bring back their core from that team and will be a favorite to get over that hump.

2. Providence Christian: The Lady Lions will have to replace a superstar in Daisy Gale but they do bring back several key pieces from last year’s team. One of those standouts, Kayte Madison Bjornstad, will likely be in the Miss Basketball conversation.

3. East Nashville: Is this the year the Lady Eagles make it back to the state tournament? They have the roster to make a deep postseason run led by Kennesaw State commitment Madyson Elliott and rising junior Kennedy Thornton.

4. MTCS: The Division II-A field is loaded but MTCS has a group that could contend for a gold ball this season. They’re led by a pair of standout juniors in Madison Graham and Anna Clay Shirley who averaged a combined 34 points per game last season.

5. East Robertson: The Class 1A field has some standout teams and the Lady Indians could very well be in that mix. Rising sophomore Allye Pennington is coming off a breakout freshman season (24 ppg) and should be in the Miss Basketball talks for the class.

Goodpasture enters the new season with raised expectations following their run to the DII-A championship game last season.
