After Week 6 was full of wet and windy weather, Week 7 of the high school football season is looking more like normalcy.
This week’s slate of top games features matchups set to go down on Thursday and Friday night. Region champions may be decided as well as playoff spots secured or lost.
Here’s a look at our top 10 games for Week 7 and a little background on each.
ON THE RISE: Week 7 large, medium and small class rankings
MAKE IT HAPPEN: 5 dream matchups we wish were happening in 2024
Spotlight Game: DeKalb County (5-1, 1-1 Regiion 4-4A) at Macon County (4-2, 1-2)
A week ago this matchup looked like one featuring two teams who could win the region title. After Week 6, this game is all about playoff survival.
Both teams lost last week in region play meaning that the loser here is on the outside looking in at a playoff spot. Those losses make this matchup mean even more.
There could be points a plenty scored as well. Both offenses found a groove in last season’s meeting as Macon pulled away for the 32-20 win.

Antioch (4-2) at Mt. Juliet (6-0)
Will the Bears be the first team to spoil the Golden Bears’ perfect season? They’ll have to figure things out on defense to do that.
Aside from a 40-6 win over Cane RIdge, Antioch’s defense has given up 20 or more points in every game. The last three games has seen the Bears give up an average of 32.7 points.
Mt. Juliet’s defense has been the polar opposite. They’ve given up an average 6.8 points this season allowing the offense to rack up win-after-win. The Golden Bears have three shutouts and only allowed more than 20 points once.
Franklin (4-2, 2-0 Region 6-6A) at Brentwood (5-1, 2-0)
Brentwood and Ravenwood appear to be the favorites to secure the top two spots in Region 6-6A. However, Franklin could play spoiler starting in this game.
One of Williamson County’s oldest rivalries has higher stakes this go around than it has in recent memory because of Franklin. The Admirals are off to their best start since 2020 winning three straight. They’ve been stout on defense during that stretch outscoring their last three opponents 105-24.
Brentwood may be the quietest 5-1 team around. Since their lone loss to Brentwood Academy, a 7-6 win over Henry County is the closest game the Bruins have played. They cruised past Hendersonville, Overton and Summit by a combined score of 129-26.

Gordonsville (4-2) at Forrest (5-1)
A healthy Bryson Grisham could be the difference in this game. He missed last week’s shutout loss to Monterey with a lower body injury.
Forrest meanwhile got back on track from their four-point loss to White House Heritage by thumping Cascade 48-0. The Rockets were led by standout freshman back Quincy Mitchell.
Mitchell had a breakout game rushing for 205 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. He also had an interception on defense.
Marshall County (6-0, 3-0 Region 5-4A) at Creek Wood (5-1, 2-1)
Is Creek Wood the 5-4A team to finally slow down the Tigers?
The Red Hawks defense has been stout this season and they’ve silently put together one of the best season’s of any team around. Things pick up significantly this week as they host a red-hot Tigers squad.
Marshall County’s outscored teams by an average of 28.5 points and are averaging just over 41 points per game this season.
Nolensville (4-2, 2-0 Region 6-5A) at Hillsboro (4-2, 1-0)
Stunning Centennial last week, Nolensville has firmly planted itself in a position to secure a top-two seed in the region. They’d fully secure that spot by beating Hillsboro.
The Burros are a quiet 4-2. They have losses to Stewarts Creek and Overton but have rattled off three straight wins over Cane Ridge, Kenwood and Lawson. Those three teams have a combined record of 3-14.
Rossview (5-1, 3-1 Region 7-6A) at Dickson County (3-3, 2-1)
Both teams enter this game with their backs against the wall following losses in Week 6. The Hawks were stunned by Kirkwood 12-3 while Clarksville rolled over Dickson County 42-7.
This game wasn’t close last year as Rossview rolled to a 28-7 win. The Hawks were putting up a ton of points before the Cobras shut them down last Thursday night.
Dickson County hasn’t put up a ton of points this season but the Cougars’ defense has been stout. Prior to their last loss, Dickson County had seven up an average of seven points during a three-game win streak.
Springfield (3-3, 1-1 Region 7-5A) at Hendersonville (4-2, 1-1)
Hendersonville may still be reeling following the beatdown Beech handed them last Saturday. Things don’t get easier this week against a Springfield side breeming with confidence.
The Yellow Jackets’ Week 6 matchup with Portland was never in doubt despite the Panthers making a late run. Their three losses this season have come by a combined 12 points.
Beating teams with winning records has been the Commandos’ achilles heel this season. The four teams Hendersonville’s beaten this year have a combined record of 4-20.

Westmoreland (5-1, 2-0 Region 3-2A) at East Robertson (6-0, 2-0)
The de facto title game in Region 3-2A, the Eagles and Indians are once again pitted against each other in what should be a massive showdown.
Westmoreland’s rolled through five straight opponents since its season-opening loss to Macon County. The Eagles are averaging 34.5 points during that stretch with Cooper White doing most of the damage on the ground.
East Robertson is without Isaiah Groves for the year but are still the team to beat in Class 2A. Zach Groves could be in for a monster night as Kason Young and Cade Brooks lead the Indians’ offense.
White House (4-2, 1-1 Region 5-4A) at Station Camp (1-5, 1-2)
This is a must-win situation for the Bison as it is a possible playoff elimination game.
Led by a returning Colton Overby, the Bison nearly completed the comeback last week and beat Pearl-Cohn. Instead they lost by one after a failed two-point conversion.
White House got back on track following a blowout loss to Marshall County by beating Greenbrier 31-7. Even with the Marshall County loss, the Blue Devils are still in contention for a top two spot in the region. Beating Station Camp would get them one step closer to that goal.
