615 Preps Week 3 Area Rankings: CPA, DCA, Ensworth get revenge

Week 2 of the season had plenty of surprises. Will Week 3 have much of the same?

Several of the area’s took care of business while others stumbled and a few more picked up statement wins. Those results ultimately meant changes in this week’s area rankings.

The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

Large Class

1. Oakland Patriots (2-0): Did anyone have a better Week 2 win than the Patriots? Oakland traveled down to Texas and beat the state’s defending Class 5A champions 52-48 behind a pair of 200-yard rushing peformances from TT Hill and Craig Tutt. Up next: vs. Haywood (2-0)

2. Ravenwood Raptors (2-0): This one was over from the jump. The Raptors dominated every phase of the game in a 48-0 win over Cane Ridge. Up next: vs. Blackman (1-1)

3. Ensworth Tigers (2-0): The Tigers got their revenge from last year’s playoff loss to MBA in a big way. They jumped out to a 28-point first half lead en route to the 35-14 win. Up next: vs. Trezevant (0-2)

4. Mt. Juliet Golden Bears (2-0): Tyler Travers scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Brooklyn Nguyen had a pick-six in the Golden Bears’ 45-14 win over Hunters Lane. Up next: vs. Gallatin (1-1)

5. Antioch (2-0): Going back-and forth throughout. the night with Nolensville, the Bears got a fourth down stop with under a minute remaining to secure their 36-33 road win. Up next: vs. Cane Ridge (0-2)

Dropped out: MBA (1-1). Who just missed out: Green Hill (2-0), MBA (1-1), MBA (1-1), Riverdale (2-0)

Medium Class

1. Page Patriots (2-0): Another week, another shutout for Patriots. William Wiebush accounted for three total touchdowns’ in Page’s 31-0 win over Independence. Up next: at Franklin (1-1)

2. CPA Lions (2-0): Pearl-Cohn gave the Lions a scare late but CPA was able to avenge last year’s loss with a 21-15 win of its own. Up next: Pope John Paul II (0-2)

3. Macon County Tigers (2-0): This was a rivalry game that could have gotten even uglier had Macon County wanted to go that route. The Tigers crushed Trousdale County 42-0. Up next: at Upperman (2-0)

4. BGA (2-0): After scoring 68 in their season-opener, the Wildcats one-upped that in their 69-3 win over Maplewood. Kaedyn Marable threw for over 300 yards and seven touchdowns. Up next: vs. Nashville Christian (2-0)

5. Beech Buccaneers (1-1): Beech’s offense could never get in a groove as Collierville town came to Shackle Island and left with a 12-10 win. Up next: vs. Riverdale (2-0)

Dropped out: Pearl-Cohn (0-2). Who just missed out: FRA (2-0), Pearl-Cohn (0-2)

Small Class

1. East Robertson Indians (2-0): They may not have Isaiah Groves but the Indians showed they’re more than a one-man team. They crushed Houston County 50-12. Up next: vs. Monterey (2-0)

2. East Nashville Eagles (2-0): No troubles this week for the Eagles who cruised past visiting Kenwood 50-14. Up next: vs. Overton (1-1)

3. Nashville Christian Eagles (2-0): Jared Curtis only completed six passes but four of them went for touchdowns as the Eagles had no issues in their 69-0 win over Innovation Academy. Up next: at BGA (2-0)

4. Gordonsville Tigers (2-0): For the second week in a row, the Tigers avenged a loss from last year. Bryson Grisham ran for 246 yards and three touchdowns in their 26-19 win over Watertown. Up next: vs. Trousdale County (0-2)

5. DCA Wildcats (2-0): Most expected a shootout between DCA and Friendship Christian but that wasn’t meant to be. The Wildcats defense stood tall en route to a 15-0 win. Up next: Tennessee Heat (1-1)

Dropped out: None. Who just missed out: Fairview (1-1), White House-Heritage (1-1)
