Middle Tennessee Christian needed every minute of the 48-hour voting window for the championship round, but the Cougars got just enough votes to get to the finish line Monday, winning the fifth-annual Helmet Madness bracket challenge.
Ravenwood led all morning on Monday until the final minutes, as MTCS made a late surge to win with 50.3 percent of the 555 votes cast. The final margin was decided by three votes, 279-276.
MTCS joins Mt. Juliet, Lebanon and DeKalb County (twice) as winners of the annual event.
