615 Preps Boys Basketball Rankings: PCA takes over small class top spot

As we enter February, Division II basketball is getting ready to start up postseason play while the rest of the state inches closer and closer to the playoffs.

Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.

Rankings are based on overall success and current form for each teams. While teams may have beaten each other earlier in the season, we look at the current form of teams compared to each other.

With that in mind, here’s a look at this week’s 615 Preps large and small class boys rankings:

LIONS MAKE A STATEMENT: PCA/BGA in pictures

Large Class

1. Siegel (22-2): The Stars kept rolling in wins over Rockvale and Oakland thanks to some huge performances from Carter Webb. Between two wins over the Rockets, Webb had 30 points in one game and 22 in the other.

2. Brentwood Academy (19-6): Tyler Tanner had an off night in a 44-42 loss to MBA only scoring five points. However a few nights prior, the Vandy signee scored a career-high 51 in a 94-58 win over CPA. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a 68-51 win over Lipscomb Academy.

3. Pope John Paul II (20-4): It was a rough start to the week for the Knights who lost to Lipscomb Academy 83-78. They rebounded in their next two games beating Father Ryan 71-67 and Ensworth 64-55.

4 Hillsboro (16-3): Another week, another pair of double-digit wins for the Burros. Hillsboro’s in a groove now as they crushed Overton 60-35 and closed the week with a 66-55 win over Cane Ridge.

5. Beech (20-5): It was a tale of two games for the Bus last week. They opened the week with a 16-point win over Gallatin but faced a much stiffer test at Green Hill narrowly pulling out the 60-58 win.

Small Class

1. PCA (20-3): Rejoice Lions fans, you’re finally at the top. Following a six-point win over FRA and 19-point win over USN, PCA proved that it should be considered a favorite for the DII-A title with a 77-66 win over a good BGA side.

2. Whites Creek (17-5): The Cobras crushed Stratford 88-30 to open the week but faced a much stiffer test a few days later against East Nashville. They once again picked up a win over the Eagles though this meeting was much closer with Whites Creek hanging on 51-49.

3. Goodpasture (21-4): It was business as usual for the Cougars last week. After blowout wins over Nashville Christian and DCA, they did get a nice test from Ezell-Harding but were able to hold on for the 59-55 win.

4. Clarksville Academy (20-5) The Cougars have been on a roll since the start of the new year winning 10 of their last 11 games. They closed out the regular season beating Beat Davidson Academy 95-66, MJCA 64-39 and Friendship Christian 58-53.

5. BGA (22-4): It was a rough week for the Wildcats who lost both of their games on the road by double-digits. BGA couldn’t get shots to fall in a 73-53 loss to Columbia Academy 73-53 and saw an early second half lead quickly evaporate in the 11-point loss to PCA.
