District play tipped off last week and as expected, several of the area’s top programs traded wins back and forth.
Those results played a factor in some shake-ups when it came to this week’s 615 Preps boys large and small class basketball rankings.
Large Class teams include 4A, 3A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 2A, 1A, and Division II-A.
Large Class
1. Independence (14-3): The Eagles opened up district play with back-to-back road wins beating Brentwood 65-59 and Centennial 84-80 in triple-overtime. Jett Montgomery was at his best in both wins scoring 33 against Brentwood and 27 against Centennial.
2. Ravenwood (15-1): The Raptors’ unbeaten streak came to a sudden halt in their first district game against Franklin. Ravenwood lost that game 66-64 and following a slow start against Nolensville, looked like they might lose two in a row. Instead they rebounded at home beating the Knights 52-47.
3. Siegel (15-2): The Stars did not play last week.
4. Pope John Paul II (14-2): The Knights proved that they’ll be a force to be reckoned with beating MBA 69-62 and Brentwood Academy 73-64. Fred Bailey had a huge week for Pope scoring 24 points against MBA and 25 against Brentwood Academy.
5. Brentwood Academy (13-5): The week may have ended in a loss, but that shouldn’t overshadow senior guard and Vanderbilt signee Tyler Tanner joining the 2,000-point club. Tanner had a huge week for the Eagles including a 42-point night in their 65-48 win over Father Ryan.
