Pearl-Cohn standout linebacker and running back Zeion Simpson-Smith has committed to the MTSU Blue Raiders. He announced the news on social media.
A weapon on both sides of the ball, Simpson-Smith had a year to remember leading Pearl-Cohn to a 15-0 record and its first state title since 1997. He was also named as a Class 4A Football finalist.
During that run, Simpson-Smith racked up 1,178 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground. He was also Pearl’s leading tackler recording 129 total tackles, 34 tackles for loss, and six sacks.
In the Firebirds’ 36-27 win over Upperman in the Class 4A championship, Simpson-Smith carried Pearl’s second half comeback. In his final high school game, he ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Shortly after Derek Mason was named MTSU’s head coach, Simpson-Smith was one of the several local players who picked up an offer from the Blue Raiders. He picked up his offer during an in-home visit on December 11.
