615 Preps Week 16 Area Rankings: Midstate well-represented in Chattanooga

The slate for Chattanooga is officially set and it’s going to be a busy few days for the 615 Preps crew.

The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action.

Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.

Large Class

1. Oakland (12-2, last week’s ranking: 2): Tied at 17 after three, the Patriots scored 21 straight to beat Bradley Central 38-17. Daune Morris ran for 171 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Up next: vs. Houston (12-2), Dec. 2

2. Brentwood (13-1, last week’s ranking: 1): In what was probably the most shocking semifinal result of the week, the Bruins were shut out by Houston 28-0.

3. Riverdale (10-3, last week’s ranking: No. 3): Riverdale’s season came to an end with a 56-0 loss to Oakland in the quarterfinals.

4. Ravenwood (9-4, last week’s ranking: 4): Ravenwood’s season came to an end with a 27-20 loss to Brentwood in the quarterfinals.

5. MBA (5-7, last week’s ranking: 5): MBA’s season came to an end with a 33-15 loss to McCallie in the semifinals.

Who just missed out: Ensworth (8-3), Mt. Juliet (9-3)

Medium Class

1. Pearl-Cohn (14-0, last week’s ranking: 1): The Firebirds are back in the Class 4A state championship following a 48-20 win over Haywood. Mr. Football finalist Zeion Simpson-Smith ran for four touchdowns in another blowout win for Pearl. Up next: vs. Upperman (14-0), Dec. 2

2. CPA (12-1, last week’s ranking: 2): The Lions’ advanced to the Division II-AA championship with a 37-16 win over FRA. Up next: vs. Boyd Buchanan (13-0), Nov. 30

3. Page (13-1, last week’s ranking: 3): In a defensive slugfest, Page limited Southwind’s high-powered attack to seven as the Patriots held on for the 10-7 win. Up next: vs. Knox West (13-1), Dec. 1

4. FRA (11-2, last week’s ranking: 4): FRA’s season came to an end with a 37-16 loss to CPA in the semifinals.

5. Macon County (11-2, last week’s ranking: 5): Macon County’s season came to an end with a 17-14 loss to Upperman in the quarterfinals.

Who just missed out: Centennial (10-3), Davidson Academy (10-3)

Small Class

1. MTCS (11-1, last week’s ranking: 1): The Cougars beat Columbia Academy 35-27 to advance to the Division II-A championship. Up next: vs. Friendship Christian (11-2), Nov. 29

2. Friendship Christian (11-2, last week’s ranking: 2): The Commanders beat Nashville Christian 56-14 to advance to the Division II-A championship. Up next: vs. MTCS (11-1), Nov. 29

3. East Nashville (12-2, last week’s ranking: 3): KJ Johnson ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns in East’s 33-19 win over Dyserburg. The Eagles will face Alcoa in the Class 3A championship for a third straight year. Up next: vs. Alcoa (13-1), Dec. 1

4. East Robertson (13-1, last week’s ranking: 4): Thanks to 240 yards and three touchdowns from their Mr. Football finalist Isaiah Groves, the Indians were able to hold on to beat York Institute 35-31. The win propelled East Robertson to its first championship appearance. Up next: vs. Riverside (12-2), Dec. 2

5. Smith County (10-3, last week’s ranking: 5): Smith County’s season came to an end with a 49-20 loss to East Robertson in the quarterfinals.

Who just missed out: DCA (7-4), Liberty Creek (7-5)
