Between upsets, close calls and a few blowouts, Week 7 of the TSSAA high school football season had a little bit of everything going on.
The 615 Preps staff has put together a list of the top five large, medium, and small class teams in our coverage area following last week’s action.
Large Class teams include 6A and Division II-AAA. Medium Class teams include 5A, 4A, and Division II-AA. Small Class teams include 3A, 2A, 1A, and Division II-A, and each grouping has roughly 30 teams in it.
Large Class
1. Brentwood (7-0, last week’s ranking: 1): Franklin gave the Bruins all they could Friday night as Brentwood needed a pair of second half rushing touchdowns from Gavyn Nelson to secure the 31-17 win. Gavyn Nel Up next: at Centennial (7-0)
2. Oakland (6-1, last week’s ranking: 2): Only leading by seven at the half, the Patriots exploded for 35 points in the second half to beat Siegel 49-7. Daune Morris ran for 169 yards and four touchdowns in the win while Oakland’s defense recorded five interceptions. Up next: Off Week
3. Mt. Juliet (7-0, last week’s ranking: No. 4): Tyler Travers threw for 197 yards and a touchdown while Jon Mikael Crudup added 141 yards on the ground in the Golden Bears’ 31-14 win over Antioch. Up next: Off Week
4. Clarksville (7-0, last week’s ranking: No. 5): The Wildcats continued to roll shutting out Northwest 55-0. James Dalyrmple had another big night racking up 98 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Up next: at Kirkwood (4-3)
5. Ravenwood (6-1, last week’s ranking: Not Ranked): The duo of Davis Dowland and Ben Hubbard did more than enough to lead the Raptors to a 24-7 win over Summit. Between those two, they accounted for 214 total yards and all three of Ravenwood’s touchdowns. Up next: at Franklin (0-7)
Dropped out: Lipscomb Academy (No. 3 last week). Who just missed out: Ensworth (5-2), Lipscomb Academy (2-4), Riverdale (5-2)
Medium Class
1. Pearl-Cohn (7-0, last week’s ranking: 1): Keshawn Tarleton only completed three of his six pass attempts but two went for touchdowns in the Firebirds’ 49-0 win over Whites Creek. Javion Kinnard hauled in one of those touchdown receptions and also scored another on the ground. Up next: at Greenbrier (2-5)
2. FRA (7-0, last week’s ranking: 2): The duo of Bobby Council and Ty Clark III proved to much for Davidson Academy to overcome in the Panthers’ 34-19 win. Clark ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns while Council recorded three sacks and also had a 77-yard touchdown reception. Up next: vs. BGA (3-4)
3. CPA (6-1, last week’s ranking: 3): CPA jumped out quickly to a 51-point halftime lead and maintained that lead throughout the night beating Webb-Bell Buckle 51-0. Up next: vs. Antioch (3-4)
4. Centennial (7-0, last week’s ranking: 4): Elisha Nieves was nearly perfect throwing going 11-of-13 for 223 yards and two touchdowns in a 62-0 win over Glencliff. The win propelled the Cougars to their first-ever 7-0 start. Up next: vs. Brentwood (7-0)
5. Page (6-1, last week’s ranking: Not ranked): In their 50-0 win over James Lawson, the Patriots scored 36 of those points in the first quarter. Jonathan Palmer passed for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the win while also rushing for a 23-yard touchdown. Up next: at Hillsboro (5-2)

Small Class
1. MTCS (6-1, last week’s ranking: 2): The Cougars took South Pittsburg to the half scoreless but gave up a few second-half touchdowns en route to an 18-6 loss. Up next: at TKA (0-7)
2. Friendship Christian (6-1, last week’s ranking: 4): Tyson Wolcott got the Commanders back on track rushing for 277 yards and five touchdowns on 27 carries in their 41-3 win over PCA. Up next: vs. York Institute (6-0)
3. East Nashville (5-2, last week’s ranking: 1): The Eagles led for most of the night but gave up a touchdown and two-point conversion with just over two minutes remaining in a 17-14 loss to Smyrna. Up next: at Cane Ridge (1-6)
4. Smith County (5-2, last week’s ranking: 3): The Owls limited Upperman to two touchdowns but that’s all the Bees needed as they were able to run the clock to secure the 14-0 win. Up next: at Jackson County (3-4)
5. East Robertson (6-1, last week’s ranking: 5): A late touchdown reception from Elijah Groves prevented the Indians from suffering a two-game skid. Groves hauled in the 32-yard touchdown with 39 seconds remaining to lift East Robertson to the 13-12 win over Westmoreland. Up next: vs. Trousdale County (3-3)
