Helmet Madness returns for 2021

After last year’s successful debut, the Helmet Madness bracket challenge returns for 2021.

68 teams will compete for a spot to have one of their home games featured in our Spotlight Game of the Week series this fall, which will go to the winner of the tournament.

Voting in each matchup will take place over two days on the website and votes can be cast every 30 minutes. Voting is logged per IP address, which means if you have multiple devices on one Wi-Fi network, only one device may vote per 30 minutes on that network.

The four area teams that won state championships in 2020 each earned No. 1 seeds. Only helmets that were worn in the 2020 season were eligible and only one helmet will represent each team this year, since most teams do not have multiple designs. Actual photos of helmets had to be in our database by Saturday, Feb. 27 to be eligible.

Brackets in each region are as follows:

Oakland is joined by Pearl-Cohn, Riverdale and Beech as the top four seeds in the Oakland region.
Other top four seeds in Summit’s region are Brentwood Academy, MBA and Father Ryan.
CPA’s region includes Lipscomb Academy, Independence and Ravenwood as the other top seeds.
Davidson Academy’s region includes top seeds Brentwood, Pope John Paul II and Franklin.
Sweet 16 pairings go off on March 9 and 10, with the championship round coming on March 19.

Four “play-in” matchups will start the tournament today and run through noon Tuesday, March 2. The first full round of the tournament begins Wednesday, March 3, with matchups in two regions.
