Opening Drive (Nov. 14): More scores to settle?

0 0

Teams on the field can’t look ahead at this time of year, but that won’t stop folks from talking about what might be in the coming weeks.

For example, more potential rematches loom in the quarterfinals. Region 5-3A is guaranteed of one – all four of its teams advanced to the second round. Stratford and James “Magic” Moore squaring off against either East Nashville or Pearl-Cohn again? Could happen.

Nolensville might get another shot at Marshall County if the Knights can get past Livingston Academy. A Creek Wood-Springfield rematch is possible in Class 4A as well.

If Beech and Henry County can win two more games, they’d revisit their Week 2 clash in the 5A semifinals.

In 6A, if Oakland advances, the Patriots will face a regular season opponent – be it Blackman or Hendersonville. Mt. Juliet would love to spoil it and perhaps try to exact some revenge on the Commandos for the Week 11 loss.

Oh, and a potential Oakland-Maryville semifinal? All signs point to it, but that’s still two weeks and some turkey away.

Cane Ridge suffered a 17-point loss to Brentwood in Week 2 – the Ravens would surely like another shot at the Bruins. Ravenwood wants the same thing after Brentwood dispatched the Raptors 25-14 on Sept. 20. Independence could give themselves another date with Ravenwood as well.

One of Friendship Christian or Davidson Academy could get back to Cookeville – but not both as they’d face off in next week’s semifinals in Division II-Class A with wins.

BGA would want another shot at FRA in Division II-AA. Lipscomb Academy would surely be okay with playing CPA again in the semifinals.

And an Ensworth-MBA rematch could happen too – in the championship game.

Lots to think about as the second round plays out.
