Six results that changed the look of the playoff bracket:
Hendersonville 41, Mt. Juliet 14: The Commandos put it to the Golden Bears from the outset and in turn won the region/district title for the first time since 2014. The Commandos get the favorable path, drawing Cookeville in the first round. Mt. Juliet, meanwhile, will have to take down Riverdale in the opening round in order to get a likely date with Oakland in round two.
Baylor 28, Brentwood Academy 17: The Eagles’ four-year run as champions is over, as Brentwood Academy’s loss ensured that the they would not make the postseason for the first time since 1997. The loss at Knoxville Catholic proved to be the difference-maker, as that tiebreaker knocked the Eagles out.
Marshall County 30, Nolensville 14: The Knights enter the postseason on a two-game skid after dropping the de facto region title game at Marshall County. Nolensville will still host its first-ever playoff game against Macon County, and the Knights still figure to be in the picture for a significant run.
Ravenwood 40, Independence 14: With this result, Ravenwood’s path involves Stewarts Creek and a possible rematch with Cane Ridge before another potential sequel with Brentwood in the quarterfinals. Independence draws Smyrna in round one, while the Bruins loom in the second round.
Springfield 14, Creek Wood 7: The state’s wackiest region finally got a resolution, as the Yellow Jackets came out on top in a slugfest at Creek Wood. Creek Wood will have to get through Jackson North Side and Hardin County to get another shot at Springfield in the quarterfinals.
White House Heritage 20, Montgomery Central 13: At the other end of Region 5-4A, White House Heritage finished off Montgomery Central’s sudden freefall out of the playoffs. Before last Friday, the Indians were primed to win the region. Now, they’ll be turning in their equipment before the weekend is over. White House Heritage wants another shot at Springfield, and if they can win at Lexington, they’ll likely get it.
