The Saturday Six – Week 3

0 0

Six games that had a clear effect on various regions around the area:

Gallatin 49, Hillsboro 14: The Green Wave are sending notice to all of Class 5A that they are a threat this year. Spencer Briggs’ Mr. Football candidacy has officially begun, as he continued his hot start with more than 280 yards on the ground in a big win over Hillsboro. Circle Oct. 25 on your schedules – Gallatin is at Beech that night and it could be a top-five matchup if things continue as they are.

Springfield 42, White House Heritage 41: The Battle of Highway 76 came down to a kick, and although it didn’t work out for the Patriots, White House Heritage can still feel pretty good about their chances in Region 5-4A. Springfield took a step in the right direction with the victory, but this region won’t have a clear direction until White House plays its first region game in two weeks – against Springfield.

Hunters Lane 27, Hillwood 24: Not only did the Warriors spoil Hillwood’s shot at going 3-0, Hunters Lane also took the inside track to the No. 4 seed in Region 6-5A. The Warriors haven’t made the playoffs since 2009 and have only won nine games this decade. But Friday’s victory – the first for Hunters Lane head coach Preston Scott – puts them in a spot to reach the postseason for now.

Wilson Central 20, Rossview 14: The Wildcats improved to 3-0 and put themselves out front in Region 4-6A. Wilson Central could very well be 4-0 in two weeks when they visit Mt. Juliet.

Watertown 16, Trousdale Co. 13 (OT): The Purple Tigers had a chance to win this one in regulation, but a missed extra point forced overtime. Trousdale County couldn’t take advantage of the second chance in the extra session, and Watertown gets the critical tiebreaker again in Region 4-2A, just like last season.

Page 34, Shelbyville 29: A big one for the Patriots, who are now on a crash course with Summit for their Oct. 4 showdown. Lincoln County might still have something to say about Region 5-5A, but the Page-Summit winner will have the preferred track to the region title.
