Opening Drive (Sept. 6): Looking for hot starts

0 0

After two weeks, 29 teams in the 615 coverage area are off to 2-0 starts. Of those 29, three (Pope John Paul II, Stewarts Creek and Summit) are seeking their first-ever 3-0 opening to the season.

Other teams haven’t been 3-0 for some time. White House Heritage is 2-0 for the first time since 2016, and the Patriots have also won consecutive games for the first time since that season as well. They’re also seeking their first 3-0 start since 2006.

As successful as Pearl-Cohn has been in recent memory, this is the Firebirds’ first 2-0 start since 2014. The same holds true for Ensworth – the Tigers haven’t been 2-0 since 2014.

Franklin Road Academy seeks its first 3-0 start since 2015, while Clarksville Academy hasn’t won its first three games since 2012. Smith County’s last 3-0 start came in 2011.

Creek Wood hasn’t been 3-0 since 2005. Hillwood’s last 3-0 start happened in 2004, while Clarksville Northwest hasn’t been 3-0 since 2003.

Three others – Mt. Pleasant, Trousdale County and Nashville Christian – are looking for 2-0 starts after already having their open dates in the first two weeks of the season.
