615 Preps began in 2019 as Midstate Preps Plus, a site helping enhance coverage of high school football in Middle Tennessee. We changed names in March of 2020 to provide a more recognizable brand and to align with our podcast, the 615 Preps Podcast. We support local sportswriters who are on the sidelines every Friday night and cover teams during the week, so we are happy to help bring their work to you.
Our coverage area consists of 89 teams in 15 counties around Middle Tennessee, including all 13 counties with the 615 area code, plus Maury and Montgomery counties. We are also on the sidelines on Friday nights, because that’s where the best coverage comes from.
Our staff and contributors include:

Chris Brooks
Chris Brooks is a co-founder of 615 Preps and serves as its managing editor and publisher. He spent five years as a prep writer for the Gallatin News Examiner, the Tennessean’s Sumner County affiliate. Prior to that, he was a stringer for the GNE for several years.
He spent two seasons writing for On The Forecheck, an SBNation site covering the National Hockey League’s Nashville Predators.
Brooks is a Tennessee Tech alum and a graduate of Macon County High School. He has a full-time job in technology sales and lives in Hermitage. He is a golfer with one hole-in-one to his credit and enjoys playing old-school video games such as Tecmo Super Bowl.

Scott Burton
Scott Burton is a co-founder of 615 Preps and is the business manager for the site. A Louisville, Ky. native, he has been a Tennessee resident all his adult life … so about 15 minutes now.
Burton spent his formative high school glory days in the Georgia educational system where, as a linebacker, he was consistently hit by college-bound players. (A few even played college football too!)
A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Scott and his family lives in Lafayette. He’s been a freelance reporter for local newspapers in the mid-state and was previously the voice of the Red Boiling Springs High football team.

Drake Williams
Drake Williams is a student at Middle Tennessee State University where he studies sports media.
Born and raised in Murfreesboro, he attended Siegel High School, graduating in 2016. When not watching sports, he is at home binge watching shows such as The Office, Westworld, Impractical Jokers, and Billy on the Street with his girlfriend and their two cats.
