Lipscomb Academy broke a 14-year title drought on Thursday, shutting out region rival CPA 27-0 to win the Division II-Class AA championship at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium.

How it went down: Lipscomb Academy got 137 yards and two touchdowns on the ground from Most Valuable Player Alex Broome, while Luther Richesson went 17-19 for 147 yards and a touchdown. Lipscomb Academy’s defense sacked CPA quarterback Cade Law four times and Kaleb Beasley intercepted Law in the first half.
Notable numbers: Lipscomb Academy was 8-of-11 on third downs, CPA went 3-for-9 … CPA did not reach the Mustangs’ 20-yard line in the contest.
Turning point: Driving late in the first half and trailing 7-0, CPA fumbled a snap, and Lipscomb Academy’s Bryan Longwell recovered. Three plays later, Richesson hit Nate Spillman for a 55-yard touchdown with six seconds to play in the first half as the Mustangs took a 13-0 lead to halftime.
Key performers: Broome won MVP honors with his performance … Edwin Spillman had seven tackles (six solo) and three sacks … Langston Patterson led CPA’s defense with 11 total tackles (five solo).
