BlueCross Bowl Saturday recap: No dice for Springfield, Ravenwood

0 0

Saturday’s action at the BlueCross Bowl championship games went much like Friday’s did, with midstate representatives each dropping their respective title contests.

Maryville 42, Ravenwood 21: Ravenwood scored twice in the fourth quarter, but the damage was already done by that point as Maryville (15-0) won its 17th state championship in convincing fashion.

The ground game was nonexistent for the Raptors (13-2) as the Rebels rolled up 201 rushing yards to Ravenwood’s 42. Three Raptor turnovers also resulted in 21 Maryville points in the contest.

Brian Garcia threw two touchdown passes – a 28-yarder to Andrew Mason and a 21-yarder to Jake Briningstool – and scored once on the ground.

Tee Hodge had 112 yards on 17 carries for Maryville, but Cade Chambers won Most Valuable Player honors with 172 passing and 76 rushing yards and four combined touchdown (two passing and two rushing).

Elizabethton 30, Springfield 6: Springfield’s bid for its second title fell short as Elizabethton steadily pulled away in the second half.

The Cyclones (15-0) built a 16-0 halftime lead and extended it to 23-0 before Kevontez Hudson hit Gabriel Kelly for a 66-yard touchdown, accounting for the lone Yellow Jacket points.

Springfield (11-4) was held to 27 yards on the ground as Elizabethton rushed for 234 yards in the victory. The Yellow Jackets also committed three turnovers in the loss.

Jeremy Jones had four solo tackles and eight assists for Springfield.
