COOKEVILLE – Midstate teams fell to 1-4 in their respective BlueCross Bowl championship games as Pearl-Cohn and Summit were both defeated on Friday at Tennessee Tech’s Tucker Stadium.
Alcoa 27, Pearl-Cohn 0: The Firebirds’ quest for perfection ended as Alcoa (14-1) rolled to a 27-0 lead in the first half of the Class 3A championship game.
Pearl-Cohn (14-1) was held to 105 yards of total offense and gave up 357 yards to the Tornadoes. Firebird junior quarterback Martino Owens left the game after suffering a dislocated ankle in the fourth quarter and was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Knoxville Central 30, Summit 7: Summit’s first taste of the championship game was a bitter one as the Spartans (10-4) committed four turnovers in the Class 5A title game.
Although Summit outgained Knoxville Central 269-257, the Bobcats (13-2) scored 17 second-quarter points to take control of the contest and force the Spartans to play catch-up in the second half.
Sophomore quarterback Destin Wade accounted for the lone Summit points on a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
